- Explain to the patient the need to remove certain clothing to expose the chest, arms and leg areas.
- Organize daily Non-Invasive Cardiology lab (Echo, EKG, Stress Lab, Nuclear Cardiology Lab, Holter lab) activities.
- Maintain daily, monthly and yearly lab census.
- Accept responsibility and carries out all instruction and duties conscientiously.
- Complete all workloads. Demonstrate the ability to set priorities.
- Cooperate; be courteous and thoughtful with patients, staff members and visitors.
- Perform the duties in an independent and timely manner.
- Monitors, assists, and performs TEE probe cleaning according to Infection control mandates, follows infection control protocol for Cidex solution use.
- Report any equipment malfunction as they may occur to the Director of Cardiology or the Administrative Designee and Bio-Medical.
- Attach electrodes to the various parts of the chest.
- Always completely explain to the patient the procedure performed and the purpose of the test.
- Ensure all documentation required for the tests is complete.
- Verify correct patient by checking name on requisition with the name on the patient’s wristband before a procedure is done.
- Precepts, orients and trains new employees in the Echo. Carefully evaluates each test requisition to be sure that the test is a valid request for the indicated patient (not duplicate test), and that the proper charges are indicated.
- Monitors and orders inventory for Echo Lab as needed. Any expired supplies must be removed and referred to supervisor.
- Performs adult & pediatric Echocardiograms, EKGs, assists with TEE procedures.
- Maintain the equipment by cleaning it on a daily basis.
- Develop a good rapport and cooperative working relationship with all members of the Cardiology staff including working well with those in authority positions.
- Checks the emergency cart daily for the expiration dates and initial the sign-in sheet. If the date has expired, the technician reports such immediately to his/her supervisor.
- Filing and giving of test reports.
- Ability of learning new duties and adjusting to change.
- Organize and complete assigned tasks.
- Assist in the other areas of the department.
- Respond to changes in work load as necessary.
- Performs EKGs.
- Handle telephone communications with courtesy, accuracy and respect for confidentiality.
- Demonstrates the ability to help others and still complete assigned tasks.
- A departmental log book which contains the following information: requisition form, patient’s name, date, time, room number, attending physician and competence on performing tests on patients whose ages range from 7 years to geriatrics.

Maintains and assists with TAT- Turn Around time for Echo lab, monthly statistics of all inpatient and outpatients referred to the Echo lab.

The technician is able to differentiate between normal and abnormal test results. When abnormal test result is noted, the Cardiologist must be informed. Immediately. Additionally, this abnormal result must be noted to Cardiologist to review.

Edit and print daily-performed EKGs.

If a Doppler is needed during the course of the test the assistant will perform the test.

Prepare, place and remove 24 hour Holter monitor and scans.

Identify problems or opportunities to improve cardiology care to the patient.
- Performs all other duties as required.
Position Requirements:
- This position requires a minimum formal education of High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 1year job-related experience.
- Echo Tech Certificate, RDMS/RDCS
