- Maintains a neat, clean and efficient work area.
- Helps good inventory of supplies and other related laboratory materials.
- Arranges priorities, especially for requests that must have very short TAT.
- Follows the Hospital and Laboratory policies for Safety which includes proper use of Personal Protective Equipment and Chemicals.
- Must document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.
- Performs a variety of routine and special laboratory procedures and tests to arrive at an accurate result.
- Assumes complete responsibility for complex procedures.
- Maintains necessary quality control and maintenance records and logs of laboratory instruments and procedures on daily basis.
- Is able to solve most problems with little or no supervision. Has written or oral communicative abilities to comprehend technical material and communicate with medical professionals.
- Performs clinical laboratory examinations as well as clerical duties as needed primarily in the histology and cytology laboratory.
- Receives written requests and specimens from physicians for routine and special tests and accessions them appropriately.
- Sets up and adjusts laboratory instrumentation as required.
- May be required to oversee the work of technicians and trainees.
- In the absence of section supervisor, may be designated to serve as acting supervisor of the section with all incumbent duties of section supervisor.
- Near visual activity is required to read detailed instructions and to examine specimens.
- Prepare a variety of solution reagents as required.
- Maintains current knowledge of developments in medical laboratory test procedures.
- Exercises all duties consistent with the needs of all patients regardless of age. Understands follows and implements the Hospital's policies for confidentiality of patient and employee records.
- Exhibits good customer relations skills.
- Must b4e capable of if identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problems or immediately notify the Supervisor or Director.
- Performs all other duties as required.
Position Requirements
- This position requires a minimum formal education of Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 1 year job-related experience.
- Desired (not required) criteria include: Two years experience as Technologist in Histology Laboratory. ASCP HT or HTL Accreditation diploma preferred.
- NYC Clinical Laboratory Technologist License.
