What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Public Defender position at Wyoming County Public Defender?
Wyoming County Public Defender's Office is looking to hire a full time Assistant Public Defender. The Assistant Public Defender will be responsible for representing criminal defendants in-person in County, Town & Village Justice Courts.
Typical Work Activities:
Participates int he after hours arraignment rotations; work independently; perform legal research; analyze and apply legal principles, facts, evidence and precedents in a legal problem; present statements of law, facts and arguments clearly, logically and forcefully; maintain confidentiality and objectivity; manage assigned caseload; operate personal computer and computer applications used by the units; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those encountered in the course of work; and interact with the public well.

Minimum Qualifications:
1. Admission to the NYSBAR or has admission pending.
2. Experience as an attorney in criminal law preferred.
3. Full time in person appearances.
4. Reliable transportation and license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State.
