Head Rowing Coach
Wyoming Seminary seeks a Head Varsity Rowing Coach for Grades 9 through postgraduate student-athletes, starting immediately. The head coach is responsible for providing leadership and direction to all facets of the rowing program in advancing the mission of Wyoming Seminary and the Athletics Department. The head coach reports directly to the Director of Athletics and works with all members of the department in the running of the program. This is a part-time position in itself but can be paired with other campus openings if opportunities arise, and in addition, on-campus housing is available.
Wyoming Seminary's rowing program is a member of the Philadelphia Scholastic Rowing Association (PSRA), competing in sculling events at scholastic regattas in Philadelphia and New Jersey. Specific areas of responsibility include on- and off-water rowing-specific coaching, recruitment, student-athlete development, program administration, and program advancement. All activities shall be conducted within the policies and resource framework of Wyoming Seminary, the Athletics Department, and National Federation of High Schools (NFHS).
Responsibilities:
- Organizes and leads on- and off-water practices, providing direct coaching and technical feedback, with shared emphasis on individual and overall boat improvement
- Works with the Athletics Department to schedule regattas
- Communicates regularly and clearly with parents about program expectations, culture, practice schedules, etc.
- Oversees school rowing equipment and assists in maintaining club facilities and equipment (boats, oars, rowing machines, launches, trailer)
- Ensures all applicable Sem policies, safety rules, and the school's code of conduct are followed by all coaches and team members
Required Qualifications:
- Demonstrated coaching experience with adolescents in this age group or demonstrated experience as a rower
- A passion for athletic competition and the ability to motivate and inspire athletes
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Personal traits appropriate for nurturing the growth of children — must be fun, energetic, creative, flexible, and patient
- Required certifications: Boating license, first aid/CPR & Safe Sport, US Rowing Level 1 or Level 1 Certification preferred
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to drive a boat trailer (or willingness to learn)
- Ability to make minor-to-moderate boat repairs (or willingness to learn)
