Job Summary
Xavier University of Louisiana is seeking to hire an Academic Advisor in the Student Academic Success Office. Reporting to the Director for Academic Success, the advisor provides individualized and group advising to students, with an emphasis on supporting students who are exploratory, academically high-risk, athletes, and those on academic probation.
The Academic Advisor will also serve as an Academic Coach for the CARE Program, which provides first year, first generation students with connected opportunities to prepare, perform, and progress during their time at Xavier.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in counseling and guidance, college student personnel, educational administration, student affairs, or related field.
- Two years of academic advising experience, retention, or counseling services (must have at least one year in a higher education environment in a full-time advising capacity).
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders (students, colleagues, administrators), both verbally and in writing.
- Must possess diplomacy, confidentiality, and strong relationship-building skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, especially with students.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree preferred, with two years of academic advising experience, retention, or counseling services (with at least one year in a higher education environment in a full time advising).
- Experience presenting to students and facilitating workshops.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative environment.
- Excellent oral, written communication skills, and organizational skills.
Special Requirements Summary
- Local and regional travel may be required.
- Some evenings and weekends are required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Description
- Provides Academic Advising to identified student populations.
- Works with other members of the Student Academic Success Office with organizing and conducting programming (workshops, brown bags, and other presentations) for the benefit of any advised student.
- Reviews student records and develops student academic success plans and interventions.
- Serves as liaison between students, staff, faculty and administrators: provides referral services for students: assesses and coordinates services and streamlines processes in a changing environment.
- Informs faculty and supports students with academic alerts
- Assists CARE participants with creating individualized academic plans and provides accountability
- Connects CARE Students along with other targeted students with campus resources, provide referral services, and develop appropriate interventions.
- Supports students who receive academic alerts; uses resources to assist students in identifying their strengths and opportunities for improvement.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
