The Xavier University Police Department is seeking applicants for a temporary police dispatcher position. This successful candidate will cover police dispatch shifts on a regular basis and when needed due to illness or vacation of regularly scheduled dispatchers. This position will answer all calls to the University emergency dispatch center, evaluate the nature and determine the urgency of the call, and dispatch the appropriate emergency first responders.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Answer, extract information, evaluate and prioritize requests for emergency and non-emergency action, including 911 calls, from the public and law enforcement agencies via telephones, police radios, agency terminal, and walk-ins
- Monitor campus-wide alarm systems including fire, intrusion, hold-up and door access, dispatching emergency services or other responses as needed
- Update in real time police officers' continuous daily activity using Incident Reporting Software
- Operate and or monitor all safety hardware and software systems used by XUPD during investigations to obtain vehicle and criminal record information to include the Regional Crime Information Center (RCIC) terminal
- Function as the primary contact when the University is closed for Physical Plant, Psychological Services, Health & Wellness, in addition to serving as a liaison between the campus Advocacy Program and students/staff seeking help
- Issues emergency messages as directed via the XU Alert Me system
- Strong communication skills and ability to multi-task
- Dispatching experience preferred but not required. The ideal candidate will have experience in an emergency dispatch center
- The successful candidate will have demonstrated an ability to work with uniformed Police Officers in a professional and personal environment, understands security concerns and has an has an ability to meet deadlines and effectively prioritize tasks while under pressure
