Xavier University’s Office of Physical Plant is seeking an Emergency Systems Superintendent who will be responsible for the daily operation, inspection, testing, and maintenance of campus fire and life safety systems. This role ensures that all emergency systems—including fire sprinklers, alarms, fire pumps, and emergency generators—are operational, compliant with safety codes, and ready to protect the campus community. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES include but not limited to:
- Conduct regular inspections, testing, and maintenance of fire pumps, sprinkler systems, alarm systems, emergency generators, and other life safety equipment across campus.
- Manage and oversee emergency systems operations to ensure compliance with NFPA standards, local fire codes, and safety regulations.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules, troubleshoot issues, and perform repairs on fire protection and life safety systems.
- Collaborate with campus safety, fire authorities, vendors, and facilities teams to coordinate system upgrades, repairs, and emergency preparedness activities.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in fire protection, emergency systems, or life safety management, preferably in a large institutional setting.
- High school diploma or GED required, Associate’s degree preferred.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Deep knowledge of NFPA standards, fire sprinkler and alarm systems, fire pumps, and emergency generators.
- Proven experience in troubleshooting, diagnostics, and maintenance of fire and emergency systems.
- Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work outdoors and in environments with noise, vibration, and physical hazards.
- Available on a 24/7 on-call basis for emergency response.
