Job Description:

The Development Director serves as a key team leader and member of the fundraising/donor relations team for XO Marriage and carries the responsibility of achieving income goals. Reporting to the Senior Director of Development, this position will lead strategy and implementation of all fundraising campaigns for XO Marriage, including individual giving, major gifts, faith-based community support, grants, and estate planning. This position will be responsible for establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with key high donors, developing relationships with new donors, and actively engaging with potential donors. The Director of Development will lead the fundraising team with 1-2 direct reports and will be responsible for meeting quarterly and yearly revenue targets. This position works with the CEO, COO, and the Development team to assist in the creation, coordination, and fulfillment of mid- and long-term fund development strategies and campaigns.


Job Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):

  • Financial acumen and ownership of the development team P&L budget that notonly achieves, but exceeds the annual budget forecast.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive fundraising strategies to meet/exceed annual revenue goals, leading initiatives to diversify donors and revenue streams; demonstrate consistent year-over- year growth, ensuring the long-term financial stability of the organization.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute activities, donor events, and resources necessary to achieve campaign goals and fundraising objectives.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with a portfolio of current and prospective donors, which include XO Marriage high donors through personalized communication, meetings, and events, to establish a high level of donor satisfaction and engagement.
  • Adhere to best practices and campaign timelines, and deadlines and drive accountability by the team.
  • Work in collaboration with the Senior Director of Development on identifying and cultivating potential major gift prospects in the community and across the country.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the XO Marriage mission and programs to promote fundraising initiatives.
  • Create, plan, and execute yearly fundraising campaigns for XO Marriage, including, but not limited to, quarterly e-appeals, North Texas Giving Day, GivingTuesday, End of the Year Giving, as well as exclusive donor events.
  • Achieve the revenue goals for assigned fundraising initiatives, including but not limited to those listed above.
  • Maintain a productive and collaborative relationship with all XO Marriage staff; participating in XO Marriage conference events, XO Marriage Center events, and other ministry events, as appropriate.
  • Represent XO Marriage at a variety of community events, such as Chamber luncheons, conferences, and other networking events to further establish relationships, awareness, and interest.
  • Use prospecting CRM tools to build donor relationships and track donor journeys, ensuring the maintenance of accurate and up-to-date records of donations and transactions.
  • Stay on top of fundraising trends and the non-profit community.


Success Criteria:

  • Develop short- and long-term business plans to achieve financial goals.
  • Achieve annual fundraising goals as determined each year - key areas of focus include: Fundraising Strategy, New High Donors, Fundraising Campaigns, Community Engagement.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to ensure concise, consistent, and compelling messaging for fundraising strategies through a variety of platforms and channels in order to advance fundraising initiatives.
  • Work with the Business Office to implement effective and functioning systems within the Donor Database system (currently Salesforce) and maintain and engage donors in their donor journey.
  • Lead and develop donor development team in interaction and strategy with donors.
  • Maintain core competencies, including building collaborative relationships, results-driven, professional behavior, passion for the mission of the organization, and flexibility to serve.


Skills Required:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a development/fundraising role for a non-profit organization. Strong leadership, communication, and management skills, with the proven ability to lead a development team, collaborate with colleagues, stakeholders, and community partners, and inspire others to support the organization’s mission.
  • Excellent organization and communication skills, ability to work independently and be able to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
  • Proven success in developing and implementing fundraising strategies, meeting revenue goals and managing fundraising campaigns.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), CRM software experience preferred (currently Salesforce).
  • Ensure accuracy and maintain the strictest confidentiality in all work, especially when handling sensitive information
  • Be creative, resourceful, detail-oriented, and flexible, possessing a positive attitude, professional demeanor, and good judgment.
  • Ability to travel, as needed, for XO events, including high donor events and activities, conferences, etc.
