GENERAL MANAGER

As an XSport Fitness General Manager, you will be an engaging, upbeat and organized leader responsible for the overall performance of the fitness club, including profitability, member satisfaction, sales, and employee development. You will manage the success of all departments and provide leadership to accomplish overall objectives.

Total pay of up to $140,000 is comprised of an hourly rate with OT plus sales commission and monthly bonus opportunities

GM positions are also available in Chicago suburbs

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for the daily, monthly and yearly financial performance of the fitness club while driving revenues and managing expenses
  • Reports directly to the Fitness Area Director as well as other Department Directors
  • Manages the fitness sales department to ensure the club is meeting or exceeding the daily, monthly and yearly membership forecast
  • Works in collaboration with the Personal Fitness Training Department to ensure the club is meeting or exceeding the daily, monthly and yearly personal training service expectations
  • Ensures that the ancillary departments are achieving or exceeding revenue targets by providing the guidance and direction the team needs to effectively hit these goals
  • Prepare the fitness club’s success on a daily basis by putting a plan and effectively communicating that plan to the team on how to reach the daily goals
  • Maintains managerial oversight for all fitness departments and communicates regularly with department heads regarding the performance of each department
  • Works closely with the Fitness Area Director to recruit, interview, and hire new fitness employees
  • Provides the time to coach, train and develop each fitness staff member’s sales and customer service skills through practice and training
  • Provides feedback and positive reinforcement on a regular basis to encourage and motivate staff

Customer Service:

  • Personally conducts a daily walk through of their fitness club to ensure that the equipment, locker rooms and overall facility maintenance are meeting expectations.
  • Meets with the Facilities and Operations managers to ensure the cleanliness and safety of the fitness club is meeting or exceeding company standards
  • Ensures that all fitness club marketing and materials are accurate and up to date
  • Maintains quality service by establishing and maintaining relationships with the customers to ensure their experience
  • Committed to delivering excellent member service and operates as the “mayor” of the fitness club by greeting members by name, walking the floor to build rapport
  • Responds quickly to fitness member issues and complaints in a timely and courteous fashion

Communication:

  • Communicates daily with Fitness Area Director to discuss any needs or concerns as well as previous day’s performance and learn about current promotions
  • Conducts daily production meetings with the fitness membership service department to manage the KPI’s of that department and takes the time to coach and teach what that department needs to do to get to goal
  • Meets with the Fitness Manager daily to strategize on how to achieve personal training best-in-class service and expectations
  • Attends weekly management meetings/calls with corporate staff to present their club’s performance and overview of the current fitness club status

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Proven management and sales success within fitness industry - REQUIRED
  • Financial planning and knowledge of P&L statements
  • Ability to work at a fast pace while prioritizing and multi-tasking effectively
  • Proficiency in sales, marketing, and operations plans within the fitness industry
  • Prior experience in one or more fitness club departments
  • Personal interest in fitness

Travel:

  • The GM may be required to travel locally to other fitness clubs or to corporate office for meetings.

Required Qualifications

  • MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE WITHIN FITNESS INDUSTRY
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred

  • Work is typically performed in a club with varying hours based on business needs
  • Extended workdays are a frequent occurrence. Ability to work a varied schedule to support the needs of the business, including frequent extended workdays, weekends and holidays may be required
