The Role: Smith-Blair, a Xylem Brand, seeks to hire a Shipper for movement of manufactured goods, operating various types of material handling equipment; stacking, palletizing, banding, etc. Also responsible for preparing paperwork for movement and shipment of goods.
Essential Duties/Principal Responsibilities:
- Must be a team player that exhibits excellent communication/interpersonal skills; motivated to work in a highly participative environment and understand and believe in the Lean Manufacturing Principles (5’s, single piece flow, KanBan, etc.).
- Will be required to complete forklift safety training course and earn passing grade on end of course exam; will also be required to demonstrate safe operating abilities through observation of hands-on operation.
- Transport by power truck and any other material handling equipment, materials to and from various departments.
- Prepare materials to be shipped by stacking, palletizing, banding, etc. and prepare all necessary paperwork for movement and shipment of goods.
- Ability to manipulate finished good products in excess of 200 lbs. for shipment.
- Perform basic preventative maintenance on power trucks and material handling equipment.
- Maintain clean, orderly and safe workplace.
- Inspect work for accuracy and quality; accurately maintain and complete, on time, all necessary records.
- Ability to read and work from written work orders or shipping orders.
- Ability to understand and operate the LXE Radio-Frequency Terminals.
- Ability to understand and operate the personal computers for shipping functions.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
- Participation in Xylem Watermark volunteer activities
Minimum Qualifications: Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities, License/Certification:
- High School Diploma or equivalent GED required.
- Manufacturing/production experience desired but not required.
- Forklift operation experience required.

- Moderate lifting (11-35 lbs.), moderate lifting/pushing (11-35 lbs.)

- Large industrial facility
- Manufacturing/production work areas and equipment related to: product assembly and assembly lines, metal forming and metal fabrication, welding/grinding, product finishing/painting, product transport/material handling, etc.
- Standard weekly job hours: 40 hours
- Overtime is not standard but can be frequent based on seasonal workload
