- Responsibilities include but are not limited to development of dimensional acceptance methodology from design drawings or CAD models using Coordinate Measuring Machines or other high precision gages and Numerical Control machines for various products which are produced or processed at the Y-12 complex.
- Provide input for the development of CMM programs for inspection machines, and delivers a dimensional certification package to the customer for usage of final quality definition.
- Aid in the design of special tooling or fixtures used during the acceptance process, coordinates with inspection areas and the Oak Ridge Metrology Center for the calibration of certified gaging, and keeps personal inventory and control of all items under ownership.
- Develop and maintain process controls, configuration control of certification packages, and completing product retest requirements as necessary.
- Provide interface with customers to develop and validate an acceptable methodology that meets or exceeds their specifications.
- Prepare cost estimates to customers for acceptance of parts and all support activities for new programs and/or projects.
- Evaluate the performance of precision equipment to maintain the lowest measurement uncertainty achievable.
- Provide interface with multiple layers of personnel on a daily basis, including plant-level program managers,technical program managers, development, engineering, operating area inspectors, and NNSA auditors.
- Provide technical support for projects aimed at improved performance, installation of new equipment, and process improvements.
- Engage personnel from multiple organizations to coordinate implementation of projects.
- Diagnose issues with calibration equipment, mainly coordinate measuring machines.
- Work with craft to resolve problems with CMMs.
- Assist with machine calibration and certification.
- Develop specification and obtain quotes from vendors for replacement parts and new equipment.
- Attend off-site acceptance for CMM procurements.
- Maintain security requirements for computers associated with dimensional inspection equipment.
- Daily assignments will be established based on the employee's level of experience.

- Bachelor's degree in engineering/science discipline with a minimum 3.0/4.0 cumulative GPA OR a Master's degree in engineering/physical science discipline with a minimum 3.3/4.0 cumulative GPA OR a PhD in engineering/physical science discipline with a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA.
- There is a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) requirement up to 4 years post-graduation at time of offer and confirmed by transcript. Beyond four years from graduation, engineering experience will supersede GPA as a requirement for hire.
- In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2 (Baccalaureate in engineering or related science, 2 years job-related and at least 1 year nuclear experience, or a DOE O 426.2 alternative). DOE 426.2 experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities.
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering preferred.
- Ability to demonstrate experience and knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing as well as strong technical, organization, communication, and team-building skills.
- Experience with machining and/or inspection activities is a plus.
- Ability to interpret information from design drawings, equipment technical reference manuals, management requirements, and industry standards to develop equipment support and compliance documents is required.
- Knowledge of manufacturing and Y-12 organizational policies, configuration and document control procedures,and Integrated Safety Management System (ISMS) is desired.
- Must be able to clearly express and document technical issues using Microsoft Office or other software packages.
- Must be a self-starter and able to work with all levels of personnel ranging from craft to Design Agency staff.
