What You'll Do

The Director of Quality Operations will lead and manage a department responsible for ensuring the highest standards of quality in our products. This position oversees all operations within the quality organization, including radiography, dimensional inspection, weld inspection, metallography, and physical properties testing. The ideal candidate will excel in team leadership, working across organizations with subject matter experts and quality engineers to maintain and optimize inspection and testing processes, and foster a culture of excellence and safety.
Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Management:
  • Directly manage and mentor employees, fostering a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure the team is trained and qualified to perform inspections safely and effectively.
  • Develop career paths and training programs to enhance employee skills and job satisfaction.

Quality Assurance:
  • Oversee inspection processes such as radiography, dimensional inspection, weld inspection, metallography, and physical properties testing.
  • Ensure compliance with internal and external standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
  • Investigate and resolve quality issues promptly to minimize disruptions to production.

Operational Excellence:
  • Implement process improvements to enhance inspection and testing accuracy, efficiency, and reliability.
  • Coordinate closely with production teams to ensure seamless integration of quality operations into the manufacturing process.
  • Manage resources effectively, including staffing, equipment, and budget.

Reporting and Compliance:
  • Develop and maintain metrics for quality performance, providing regular reports to senior management.
  • Ensure all inspection records are accurate, complete, and compliant with internal and external standards.
  • Work across organizations with subject matter experts to stay updated on advancements in inspection technology and methods to maintain a competitive edge.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree: Minimum 12 years of relevant experience. Minimum 5 years of relevant supervisory/ management experience.
  • OR 20 or more years of education and/or relevant experience may be considered to satisfy educational and years-of-experience requirements for this posting. Minimum 5 years of relevant supervisory/ management experience.

Preferred Job Requirements

  • Supervisor/management experience may be obtained through a combination of:
    • Directly supervising people
    • Managing programs/projects that require leading diverse teams with job responsibilities including hiring personnel, giving performance feedback, personnel goal setting and/or mentoring/coaching. Note: Will be reviewed for relevancy toward the management experience requirement
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, materials science, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in quality assurance or operations management, with a strong background in inspection techniques.
  • Proven leadership experience, with the ability to manage and inspire a diverse team of barging unit employees.
  • Expertise in radiography, metrology, dimensional inspection, weld inspection, metallography, and/or physical properties testing.
  • Strong knowledge of quality management systems, regulatory standards, and safety protocols.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.

This position may require entry into the Material Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (10 C.F.R. Part 712), which requires successful competition of a DOE counterintelligence evaluation and may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination.

This position may be categorized as a “designated position” identified by 10 C.F.R. Part 709, requiring successful completion of a DOE counterintelligence evaluation that may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination.
