What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Director Elections position at Yadkin County Government?
Primary job function and duties:
Administrative: Performs responsible administrative, clerical, and technical work in all phases of the election process. Performs some secretarial tasks, such as answering the phone and sending emails. Interacts with the public. Receives registration applications and verifies information to ensure placement of each voter in correct precinct; will work with geo code and mapping files to make this possible. Prints and mails voter registration cards. Maintains voter registration files. Conducts biannual list maintenance. Works with National Voter Registration Act (NVRA) programs and National Change of Address (NCOA).
Directive: Assists the Director in planning for primaries, second primaries, town, and general elections which includes: candidate filing, preparing precinct supplies, assist with preparing polling places, preparation of ballots, early voting, testing voting machines, updating laptops and adding software, maintaining other electronics, printers, etc. as necessary, accepting absentee requests and filling those requests, running statistical reports, training precinct officials, creating voter ID cards
Service: Assist poll workers with issues and respond to voter questions. Research provisionals, prepare documents for Canvass, and follow through with post-election procedures.
Meetings/Trainings/Security: Participate in Board of Election meetings and attend state training seminars. Must adhere to all state and county security practices including physical security, cybersecurity, and confidentiality of office records.
Physical Requirements:
1. Must be physically able to lift up to 50 pounds
2. Must be able to write and communicate effectively
3. Must be able to sit, stand, bend, stoop, push, and pull
Supervised by: Elections Director
Minimum Qualifications: Minimum of an Associate’s Degree from an accredited institute. Two or more years of elections administration experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job, such as those listed above. Ability to communicate effectively with people of varying backgrounds and establish effective working relationships with supervisor, the public, and other employees. Ability to plan, organize, and review work, work flow, and procedures.
Special Requirements:
1. Computer skills with knowledge of various software applications, including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite
2. NC Notary Public certification or ability to obtain within 3-4 months of hire
3. Willingness and ability to obtain certification from the NCSBOE
4. Valid driver’s license to accommodate occasional travel to training, polling (or potential polling) locations
5. Complete and pass a Criminal Background check.
Work Schedule/Requirements: Generally, Monday-Friday, 8am to 5 pm. May require ability to work a variable schedule, including weekends and evenings.

Pay: $38,432.00 - $57,647.00 per year
