There is an Extra Help Intermittent On-Call Financial Specialist I vacancy with Yakima County District Court - Grandview Location. This position will perform a variety of duties including receipting payments for both District Court and District Court Probation and helping the defendants set up time payment arrangements as well as helping determine payment amounts if defendant is unable to pay the minimal monthly payment amount. This person will also be crossed trained to perform duties as an In Court Clerk in the courtroom setting assisting in all aspects of the Court by assisting the Judges, Attorneys and defendants.
You will perform all duties in preparation and ordering of bench warrants, scheduling court appearances and preparation and handling of legal documents and data entry into the JIS Statewide computer system. The successful candidate will also perform a variety of other office duties including responding to or routing telephone inquiries and records maintenance as well as the processing of the daily mail. And will be needed for any other court office support processes on a daily basis.
Training may be required at alternative work locations. After the employee has completed training, part of the job may include traveling as needed to cover in Yakima at either the cashier windows or covering District Court dockets in Court.

Essential Duties:
Receives and receipts payments in person and by mail. Reviews Accounts Receivable documents, and creates/adjusts for financial accuracy or adjustments. Evaluates, prioritizes, & prepares correspondence utilizing specialized knowledge of Court procedures & guidelines. Refers issues to judicial officer if necessary. Refers defendants for community service when appropriate.
In Court Clerk, must in a timely manner complete docket entries updating the case events in the JIS Statewide system which requires accurate information in multiple screens. The Clerk must also ensure that the court proceedings are being recorded correctly via the FTR system and that the audio log is being prepared for each case. The Clerk must also be able to respond to any inquiry or request the Judge may have of him/her during court proceedings while at the same time managing the regular activity of the court proceedings.
Creates accounts receivable & time payment arrangement records; monitors; posts & disburses bail/bonds; monitors bench warrant & “Failure to Appear” status in order to maintain accurate Dept of Licensing records.
Issues Department of Licensing (DOL) Failure to Appear (FTA) notices, identifies FTA issues on traffic infractions and coordinates activities with other agencies involved. Removes FTA when appropriate by contacting the Department of Licensing. Reviews, recalls and updates warrants in computer system. Prepares case filing information, enters data into DISCIS system.
Indexes & secures trial exhibits (drugs, weapons, blood-borne pathogen materials & money); maintains chain of custody; applies policies & procedures in disposition of evidence.
Disseminates information & ensures confidentiality regarding ongoing case information. Coordinates communications between Judges, attorneys, staff and maintains integrity of jurors. Monitors courtroom evens to identify potential security risks, breach of protocols, or special needs situation. Maintain files and help with record retention and filing of records.
Other duties as required.
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED AND (3) three years of accounting training / experience; OR an equivalent combination of experience or training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
Required:
- Valid WA State Driver’s License and proof of insurance, if requested.
- Employment offers are contingent upon successful completion of a criminal and financial background investigation and general employment verification.
- This job will require traveling to Yakima to cover court dockets and/or cashier window duties as needed on a short notice time frame.
Preferred:
- Bilingual- highly preferred.

Computer for data entry, receipt cash, check, money order and credit card payments. Adding machine to run cash totals, Bankcard Systems credit machine to receipt payments. Printer to receipts for payments. Copier to copy various court documents. Multiple Line Telephone to answering and transferring calls. Fax Machine to fax bail receipts to Yakima County Jail, fax court documents to varies agencies, courts and attorney’s offices.
Working Conditions: This position is rated as Sedentary Work, exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
