Yakima Valley College seeks innovative adjunct Allied Health Instructor in the Workforce Education Division. This position is part-time, non-tenure track.
Reporting to the Dean – Workforce Education, the Allied Health Instructor demonstrates a commitment and expertise in working with diverse populations, utilizes appropriate technology in the classroom, and has a record as a successful teacher demonstrating strong promise as a contributing member of the Workforce Education Division. The Allied Health Instructor values opportunities for interdisciplinary collaborations, finds ways to utilize cooperative learning, and utilizes various technologies in the classroom and for distance delivery of instruction.Essential Tasks
JOB PROFILE:
- Prepare and teach courses as assigned within Allied Health Technology programs
- Update Allied Health Technology Programs (AHT) curriculum as required by the institution or industry trends
- Assist with activities of the AHT Programs including curriculum, facilities, equipment, students' applications, program promotion, Advisory Board, externship partnerships and placements, and compliance with national accrediting agencies.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Qualification with appropriate training and certification as a Medical Assistant or Phlebotomist or Pharmacy Technician, or Surgical Technologist or Medical Biller and/or Coder or Medical Interpreter or other appropriate Health Care Provider certification or license.
- Three years of recent relevant employment.
- Working knowledge of the requirements of multiple Allied Health programs. (E.g. Medical Assisting, Medical Billing and Coding, Medical Interpreter, Pharmacy Technician, Surgical Technology and/or Phlebotomy).
- Eligibility for vocational certification in the State of Washington.
- An earned Associate Degree
- Experience teaching via Distance Education modes (online courses, interactive TV courses, etc.)
- Experience teaching at the community college level.
- Experience teaching Allied Health courses.
- Experience developing curriculum.
- Ability to communicate knowledge and skills in both oral and written forms to students who represent a broad spectrum of ages, abilities, ethnicity, education, and cultural backgrounds.
- Proven ability to work with the community and health care providers to create training and curriculum to meet the workforce needs.
- Dedicated to students and creating an environment conducive to meeting their learning needs.
- Willingness to continually upgrade knowledge and skills in order to maintain relevant curriculum.
- Ability to work effectively with supervisors, colleagues, staff, and students as part of an education team.
- Enthusiasm for using and learning new technologies.
- An educational philosophy appropriate to the community college system and the needs of its diverse populations.
