Yakima Valley College seeks a resourceful and collaborative Coordinator for Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) programs, who is committed to equity in education and supportive of diverse students and their goals. This is a full-time, exempt position, which includes a full state benefits package. 
 
Reporting to the Director of Applied Baccalaureate Programs, the BAS Coordinator provides support to the Director of Applied Baccalaureate Programs and any BAS programs assigned in accordance with the mission and goals of Yakima Valley College. The Coordinator is the main point of contact for assigned BAS students and assigned BAS programs. This position requires the ability to exercise sound judgment and problem-solving skills in decision-making and a desire to promote a positive working relationship with peers, supervisors, faculty, administrators, students, and a variety of departments across YVC. This position also requires the ability to communicate effectively with community and business leaders, community organizations and faculty.  This position also assists with outreach, marketing, including social media, and event planning for the program.

Additionally, a BAS Coordinator assists the Director in recruiting and screening of applicants to assigned programs. As a team member of the Workforce Education Division, the Coordinator is responsible for the implementation of policies and procedures designed to ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional requirements. This individual will demonstrate dedication to excellence in leadership and a strong commitment to diversity, equity and inclusiveness.

This position is responsible for designing and implementing systems for the overall coordination of program services, recruitment, admissions, enrollment, and program advising. BAS Program Coordinators may also share responsibilities of other BAS programs and/or coordinate for other programs if needed.


ESSENTIAL TASKS:

  • Support the Director of Applied Baccalaureate programs, faculty, and enrolled and prospective students.

  • Collaborate with the Director of Applied Baccalaureate programs to coordinate and implement the recruitment and selection process for assigned BAS programs.

  • Strengthen program outreach through building community relationships with business leaders and community organizations. 

  • Participate in program outreach efforts on campus and at community events.

  • Serve as the main point of contact for current BAS candidates, potential candidates, college staff, and community.

  • Facilitate current student access to college resources as needed to be successful in the program.

  • Assist the Director of Applied Baccalaureate programs with the design and implementation of public information and marketing strategies including website and print materials related to the BAS programs.

  • Regularly reviews BAS program websites and marketing materials and recommends appropriate updates.

  • Facilitate program internships when necessary.

  • Research, develop, present, and promote projects.

  • Participate in State committees and projects, other statewide projects, and related professional organizations as assigned.

  • Implement policy identified by the Applied Baccalaureate Director, Dean, and the Vice President of Instruction and Student Services.

  • Adhere to and implement policy and procedures of the college and program.

  • Ensure adherence with provisions of (a) college policies and procedures, (b) state administrative code, (c) the standards of NWCCU.

  • Establish and maintain a strong and collegial relationship with faculty, staff, and students.

  • Communicate with all college departments and service providers who interact with BAS students, including, but not limited to, Admissions, Registrar, Financial Aid, and Business Office.

  • In collaboration with the BAS Team, coordinate Advisory meetings, BAS orientation sessions, application and admissions processes, scholarship awards, registration, graduation, and all related BAS functions.

  • Values open-mindedness, inclusion, multicultural perspectives, and multiple ways of knowing, thinking, and being. 

  • Screens admission applications for minimum qualifications, establishing a roster of applicants for consideration by the selection committee.

  • Serve as the primary informational and program contact for community, students, and faculty.

  • Support the faculty in the coordination of the schedule of classes, meetings, and course offerings throughout the academic year.
  • Provides program-specific advising to prospective and current students.
  • Monitors student performance and initiate interventions when necessary.
  • Generates program data and reports, collaborate with the Office of Institutional Effectiveness.
  • Effectively communicates by actively listening and sharing relevant information to students in advising role; clearly and effectively communicates with individuals and groups within and outside of the organization verbally and in writing.
  • Interact effectively with others to establish and maintain effective and positive working relationships.
  • Maintains program documents, BAS canvas shell, communication with current and prospective students via email and social media as directed.
  • Participate in commencement/graduation activities. 
  • Provide exceptional customer service in a highly diverse environment and place a high priority on professional excellence; demonstrate student focus and the ability to assess student needs and prioritize as necessary.
  • Responsible for own work performance and balancing critical job requirements that may include multi-tasking a variety of different tasks, initiating and completing work.
  • Manages time/conflict/stress; uses systems to organize, prioritize, and keep track of information and/or work in progress; maintains accurate and complete electronic and manual records; exhibits attention to detail.
  • Must occasionally travel to meetings and other campus locations.
  • Requires some evening and weekend hours to accommodate BAS schedules.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Two years of experience in higher education.
  • Four years of professional experience in an office environment.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Academic advising experience at a community college or university.
  • Demonstrated success working on behalf of multicultural student populations, or other historically marginalized students, identifying performance and outcome gaps and developing effective strategies to address the causes of those differences, and assisting with aspirational goal setting.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite Programs required for the collection of program data.
  • Experience with marketing, recruitment, and outreach.
  • Demonstrated experience in program coordination.
  • Experience in the development of program assessment systems, maintaining program assessment data, generating aggregated data program reports.

  • Travel to external sites with reliable transportation.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Advising principles and adult learning theory.
  • Efficient and effective process and procedure.
  • Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Online LMS.
