Position Summary:

We are looking for a motivated Construction Intern to join our team for the summer season! This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the construction field while earning competitive pay.
This position requires compliance with Yakutat Tlingit Tribe’s compliance standards, including its Standards of Conduct, Compliance Program, and policies and procedures. Such compliance will be an element considered as part of the position’s regular performance.
Essential Functions:
- Perform heavy lifting and manual labor as needed
- Assist with construction tasks from foundation to finish work
- Read and interpret tape measurements accurately, apply basic carpentry fundamentals.
- Work safely and efficiently as part of a team
- Other operational duties as assigned.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:
Office Environment:
· The environment may include risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, requiring use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.
· Office work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. The employee must be able to read, write, speak and hear.

Outdoor / Construction Environment:
· Work may be performed off ground (e.g. roof maintenance.) The position is required to be able to function in this capacity safely and effectively.
· Ability to use basic physical skills to bend, crouch, and climb repeatedly, lift 50 lbs. individually, lifting more should be done via team lift.
· Some of the work performed may be in close proximity to equipment in operation, and/or sharp and/or loud power tools.
· The Construction Intern must be able to work safely and effectively in many types of weather conditions from warm, sunny, dry, and calm conditions to cloudy, cold, wet, windy conditions to dark, moist, freezing, gusty conditions.
· Performs strenuous work in varying and adverse weather conditions, uneven or rugged terrain.
· High noise environment while performing certain construction responsibilities.
· Lifting / moving up to fifty (50) pounds occasionally, and/or up to twenty (20) pounds frequently,
· Lifting / moving over fifty (50) pounds use team lifting.
· Able to climb and descend equipment and ladders, to bend, stoop, crawl, and reach.
· Position requires visual acuity and depth perception, as well as ability to hear and identify sounds. Occasionally required to work in and around water.
Supervisory and Management Responsibility:
This position has no supervisory responsibility or authority.
Minimum Qualifications:
· High school diploma or GED required.
· Must be 18 years of age or older.
· Basic knowledge of carpentry and construction tools.
· Ability to read a tape measure and follow instructions.
· Willingness to learn and take on various tasks.
· Reliable transportation to job sites.
· Valid Alaska Driver’s License.
· Must be able to pass a National Criminal and State background check.
