Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) at Yale New Haven Health
As a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), key responsibilities include assisting healthcare providers with patient care, managing appointments, and maintaining accurate medical records. This role emphasizes patient-centered care, effective communication, and collaboration within the healthcare team to enhance the patient experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist physicians/providers with patient care, rooming patients, and various clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks.
- Perform patient care responsibilities as assigned, including identifying oneself to patients/families and explaining roles of each care delivery team member.
- Execute administrative duties as assigned, such as sending/receiving patient medical records and abstracting new patient records into EPIC.
- Set up instruments and equipment according to department protocol.
- May assist/perform chaperone duties for patient medical procedures as needed.
Requirements:
- Graduation from an accredited medical assistant certificate program is preferred.
- Certification/Registration (CCMA/CMA/AAMA/RMA) is preferred; alternatively, Certification/Registration may be accepted in lieu of graduation from an accredited MA school.
- A minimum of 1 year private practice medical assistant experience is preferred in a primary care or specialist office.
- Medical Assisting Certification is preferred.
- EMR experience is preferred, and working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications is required.
- Bilingual preference is noted but not required.
- Core philosophy or values must be consistent with a patient-centered approach to care.
Demonstrates professional, appropriate, effective, and tactful written, verbal, and nonverbal communication skills with patients, families, medical staff, colleagues, vendors, and other departments throughout the continuum of care to promote continuity of care and services and enhance the clinical image.
