Yale Facilities / Recycling and the Office of Sustainability are seeking undergraduate and graduate students to serve as Program Assistants during Spring Salvage, April 25- May 22, 2025.Spring Salvage is an annual resource recovery program coordinated by Yale Recycling and the Office of Sustainability during undergraduate move-out. Soft items (clothes, shoes, towels, and bedding) and hard items (chairs, bookshelves, beds, futon frames, and other large items) are collected and donated to a local or regional organization. In 2025, over 45,000 lbs. of material were collected and donated.Program Assistants will play critical roles during Spring Salvage by hauling donated and recyclable items from student residences and facilitating dormitory move-out operations. Work will consist primarily of moving furniture, room furnishings, and other items donated by students. Opportunities to work extra hours doing miscellaneous facilities tasks, such as cleaning campus billboards, may be provided.Applicants should have a willingness to work long hours outside in all types of weather; be able to handle and haul recyclables, garbage, and donated and / or discarded clothing; and be able to comfortably and safely lift 50 lbs. Candidates should also be punctual, reliable, and proactive, with strong communication skills, good judgment, and a sense of humor. During the planning and preparation period in April, Program Assistants are required to attend an orientation meeting. During the two move-out periods in April and May, Program Assistants are expected to work full-day shifts up to or exceeding 8 hours as needed.
