Position Focus:
Reporting to the Clinical Manager of Allergy & Immunization, position will operate as the department Lead RN for the Immunization Care Team and assist in supporting the expanding University-wide Immunization Program. Role provides daily leadership in collaboration with the Clinical Manager which will include: oversight of nursing team, including performance monitoring, coaching, evaluation and training. Collaborates with the manager and clinical team on initiatives designed to improve delivery of care. Role provides direction and guidance to the Immunization Care Team, as well as a liaison role to all clinical departments, as required. In the absence of the Clinical Manager, role is responsible for operations and decisions to ensure seamless clinic operations that meet the needs of our patients.
Position also provides direct nursing care that is safe, effective and evidence based, for members of the university population. Role includes significant triage as well as assessment of walk in patients, care coordination. Fosters ongoing improvements of service and a culture that prioritizes safety. Role requires the ability to interface with key clinical partners, ability to make difficult decisions and facilitate resolution.
Additional responsibilities include: Supports the Immunization Care Team by assuming responsibility for, and coordinating all facets of nursing support for our patients. Coordinates and/or delivers direct nursing care to patients and collaborates with members of the multidisciplinary team to support the work of the team, unit activities, and the accomplishment of positive patient outcomes. Clinical judgment and decision making in accordance with clinical practice guidelines, protocols and clinician orders, including follow up, preventative health, maintenance, teaching and education. Assume responsibility for evaluation and disposition of scheduled patients as well as same day- walk in patients. Delegates responsibilities to appropriate members of the care delivery team based upon an understanding of others' roles, scope of practice, knowledge, and capabilities to ensure optimal utilization of personnel. Assure appropriate documentation of patient encounters, including patient teaching, self-care advice, and coordination of health services as indicated. Oversight and supervision of support staff on a care team and the ability to delegate to clinical and support personnel, within their scope of practice/responsibility. Responsible for orienting and training new staff, as well as annual competency assessment. Contributes to a positive work environment by being responsive to the need for change. Maintains a collaborative work relationship with staff members through respect and recognition of cultural and human diversity. Successfully completes the competency based orientation within designated time frame. Identifies self-learning needs and actively participates in meeting them in collaboration with the leadership team. Sets and achieves professional goals. Delivers excellence in patient care through compliance with all patient safety and regulatory initiatives. Uses resources in a fiscally sound manner. Compliance with University, State and federal healthcare regulations.

Essential Duties
1. Performs physical assessments of patients, including triage duties and advises on treatment or course of action. 2. Identifies and evaluates nursing services problems and develops and implements appropriate programs and services, including assessing staffing needs and arranging coverage as needed. 3. Develops, implements, and manages nursing care plans in collaboration with physicians. 4. Instructs patients and families in proper treatment and advises patients on health maintenance and disease prevention. 5. Provides leadership, guidance, direction to clinical staff, and collaborates with nursing at all levels. 6. Determines standards for quality assurance and infection control procedures; trains staff in universal and isolation precautions in the area of infection control. 7. Performs diagnostic and therapeutic measures in collaboration with physicians. 8. Evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice and nursing services. 9. Records patients’ medical histories and symptoms, performs diagnostic tests and analyzes results, operates medical machinery, administers treatment and medications, and coordinates with patient follow-up and rehabilitation; assures all procedures for maintaining patient confidentiality are maintained per HIPAA guidelines. 10. May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and two years’ experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Skill/Ability 1:
Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills. Competent clinical triage skills and critical thinking skills and attention to detail.
Required Skill/Ability 2:
Evidence of maintenance of professional skill and competency, attendance at educational programs such as seminars and workshops that are appropriate to the field.
Required Skill/Ability 3:
Demonstrated abilities in a medical/surgical setting, critical care setting, preferably in a hospital or outpatient/ambulatory setting. Active membership in professional organizations.
Required Skill/Ability 4:
Computer proficiency as it relates to the use of an EMR.
Required Skill/Ability 5:
Excellent attendance, punctuality and reliability.
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:
Experience in allergy, immunizations, desensitization and travel.
Required Licenses or Certifications
Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Connecticut or Connecticut license eligible. Current CPR certification.
