Yamhill County has one regular, full-time position for a Deput District Attorney II. The DDA II reviews, prepares, and tries criminal cases. Presents juvenile delinquency cases in juvenile court. Provides related legal advice to law enforcement agencies and the juvenile department, and other functions designated by state statute. Performs related legal research and writing. Work involves cases and duties requiring an advanced level of experience and ability. Performs other related work as required.
Responsibilities
- Primarily represents the state in juvenile delinquency proceedings, including treatment court processes, preventative processes, and preparation and filing of juvenile delinquency petitions, and various types of resolutions to include trial.
- Prepares criminal matters for and represents the State at trial, appeal, and related hearings.
- Screens reports brought to the district attorney's attention by law enforcement personnel.
- Assists the district attorney in preparing or trying criminal or quasi-criminal cases and in administrative matters when so requested.
- Provides legal assistance and advice to law enforcement agencies in criminal matters. May provide such advice to law enforcement agencies on-call during non-business hours.
- Prepares discovery, arrest, and search warrant affidavits, extradition requisitions, and other investigatory and pre-trial procedures.
- Conducts legal research necessary for case preparation and/or office management to broaden legal background; keeps abreast of case law and legislation affecting state criminal laws.
Qualifications
Graduated from an accredited school of law, must be a member of the Oregon State Bar at the time of appointment, and have at least three years of experience in criminal prosecution, juvenile law, or a combination thereof.
