The Role
The Staff Accountant plays a key role in maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulations. This position performs internal accounting duties, ensuring the timely and accurate completion of financial reports, reconciliations, and other accounting tasks. The Staff Accountant is essential in contributing to a collaborative, cohesive, and efficient accounting team, driving the company's success and operational effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain general and subsidiary ledger journal entries and reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
- Execute month-end and year-end closing procedures.
- Perform internal accounting duties: file sales, use and franchise tax returns; reconcile bank accounts; research and resolve discrepancies; maintain accurate accounting records; analyze trends.
- Assist with accounts payable and work order accounting functions as needed.
- Support audit processes by providing documentation and information to auditors.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
- Collaborate with team members to improve financial processes and enhance efficiency.
- Assists with special projects and other duties as assigned.
Key Skills
Accounting Knowledge: Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and cooperative accounting.
Diligence: Strong attention to detail in preparing and maintaining financial records, ensuring accuracy and eliminating discrepancies.
Software Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, along with experience using Microsoft Office applications and accounting software.
