POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Fuels Personnel will work on the reduction and restoration of fire adapted ecosystems. This work may entail thinning of timber, woodlands, or shrubs with chainsaws and other small engine equipment, utilizing prescribed fire to reduce fuels; pilling and chipping of slash; chemical application to undesirable fuels; monitoring pre- and post- fire effects, and fire suppression on occasion. May participate in prescribed fire and wildfire activities, which may include; burn unit prep, fire operations and maintenance of equipment and supplies, mop up and monitoring.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Prefer High School Diploma or GED certification.
- Must have experience with chainsaws, and other small engine equipment.
- Must have experience in mechanical repairs to maintain assigned equipment.
- Must have knowledge of methods and techniques in related field.
- Must be able to use power equipment for and extended amounts of time.
- Must be able to stand for extended period of time.
- Prefer valid Arizona Driver’s License.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Perform duties of fuel reduction and restoration such as cutting trees, hauling debris, raking, weed eating and burning piles.
· Safe operation of various equipment such as power saws and small engine equipment.
· Clear and remove vegetation and debris.
· Maintain and perform minor repairs on assigned equipment and tools.
· Maintain a positive working relationship with Tribal employees.
· Performs other duties assigned.
· Utilize a variety of specialized tools, equipment and techniques, such as Pulaski, shovel McLeod, ax and chainsaw.
