Job Summary:
The Thrift Store Donation & Sorter is responsible for receiving, sorting, and organizing donated items to ensure efficient store operations. This position requires heavy lifting of furniture and other large items, as well as working on the truck to pick up donations from the community. Additionally, this role assistsing general store activities as assigned by the Store Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
Donation Processing:
- Greet donors and assist with unloading donations in a friendly and professional manner.
- Provide donation receipts and express gratitude to donors.
- Inspect donated items to determine their condition, sorting them into sellable, recyclable, or discard categories.
- Follow store policies on acceptable donations and communicate any restrictions to donors.
Sorting & Organizing:
- Sort donations by category (clothing, electronics, furniture, books, etc.).
- Ensure all items are clean, functional, and suitable for sale.
- Work with the pricing team to prepare items for display in the store.
- Organize stock areas to maintain an efficient sorting system.
Truck Driving & Donation Pickups:
- Assist with or operate a company truck to pick up large and heavy donated items, such as furniture, appliances, and bulk goods, from homes and businesses.
- Safely lift, load, transport, and unload heavy donations while preventing damage.
- Coordinate pickup schedules with donors and ensure timely and efficient routes.
- Follow proper lifting techniques and safety protocols when handling heavy items.
- Maintain the truck’s cleanliness, report any maintenance issues, and ensure compliance with vehicle safety regulations.
Store Maintenance:
- Keep the donation area, and sorting areas clean and organized.
- Assist with store displays and merchandising as needed.
- Follow safety protocols when handling large or heavy items.
General Store Activities & Customer Service:
- Assist with customer service, cashiering, and other store operations as assigned by the Store Manager.
- Greet and assist customers in finding merchandise.
- Maintain a clean and organized sales floor.
- Support other team members in daily store functions.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Ability to lift and carry heavy items, including furniture and appliances (up to 75 lbs.)
- Comfortable working on a truck and handling large community donations.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Valid driver’s license (if required to operate the truck); prior truck driving experience is a plus.
- Retail, cashier, or customer service experience is preferred.
Work Environment:
- Indoor and outdoor work required (handling donations in various weather conditions).
- Fast-paced and physically demanding environment.
- May require weekend and holiday availability.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $15.50 - $17.50 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week
