What are the responsibilities and job description for the Executive Director - Camp Foss position at YMCA Camping Services?
This position supports the work of The Granite Y, a leading NH nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. We are seeking an experienced professional with supervisory skills and overnight camp experience to be the next Executive Director at YMCA Camp Foss (A traditional all girls overnight camp)
Required Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in human services, social services, business or equivalent.
- Five or more years of experience working at an overnight camp.
- Three or more years of management experience at the level of Executive, Camp Director, Operations Director, Assistant Camp Director or equivalent.
- Ability to direct total operations through volunteer development, supervision of staff, development and monitoring of camp budget, marketing and public relations, and program development.
- Will meet the requirements of a Camp Director as set forth by the ACA and State of NH.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Proven track record of developing authentic relationships with others.
- Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
- YMCA Multi-Team Leader or willing to obtain within 1 year.
Essential Job Functions:
- Recruit and develop staff with a strong commitment in building genuine relationships. Supports the ongoing recruiting, hiring, training, development and supervision of the camp leadership team.
- Supports the development of total camp operating budget; ensures monthly forecasting is proactive and establish path to meet or exceed annual budget targets.
- Assures that high-quality relationship-based member engagement strategies are in practice. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions with staff, volunteers, members, and the community.
- Ensures compliance with both state of NH and American Camp Association standards.
- Live on site during the camp and set up season (Mid May – Mid September) to ensure a high caliber camp program for campers ages 7 to 15 years of age.
- Ensures the safety and maintenance of high-quality facilities, grounds, and equipment.
- Coordinates with the Advisory Board chair a robust board development effort. Seeking a variety of diverse and qualified leaders to support the camp’s annual fundraising, strategic and mission impact goals.
· Work with the Camp Enrollment Coordinator to maintain positive and regular communication with camper families, staff members and alumni throughout the year through email campaigns, newsletters, phone calls and planned events.
- Seeks, cultivates and models collaborative relationships with community agencies in service delivery area.
- Coordinates camp marketing and communication efforts with VP of Marketing and Communication to ensure proactive and effective communication of the branch’s community benefit and impact.
- Supports the overall objectives of The Granite YMCA.

This position is a full time, year-round Executive position that must live on site in Strafford (beginning in May and ending in October) at an all girl’s overnight camp.
