POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Controller at YMCA Cape Cod stewards the Y’s cause, promoting and protecting the brand and reputation as a global, inclusive organization within the community. The position requires an ambitious, experienced, professional with deep accounting knowledge to oversee the YMCA’s accounting functions for a budget of $11 million with a mastery of change to help translate strategic vision into practical action.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (AT LEAST 60% OF THE TIME):
• Maintains an accounting system to accomplish the proper recording and reporting of all operations, transactions, assets and liabilities of the YMCA for all funds.
• Processes monthly close including recording of general ledger transactions and prepares financial statements required by management, the board, and outside agencies.
• Recruits/hires, trains, supervises, develops and manages all accounting staff and monitors budgets, including accounts payable and receivable, fixed assets, prepaid expenses, grants management and general accounting areas
• Facilitates key functions such as annual independent audit. Conducts special internal audits, accounting studies, analyses and cost studies as required. Provides recommendations
• Maintains records, and prepares various internal and external reports, including reports for various federal and state agencies. Aides in preparation of the IRS Form 990 tax return and state Uniform Financial Report.
• Aides in design of practices, processes, and procedures for strong fiscal management.
• Serves as resource person to management and program personnel in all financial matters relating to accounting and accounts payable and navigates differing stakeholder perspectives when making decisions.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS (LESS THAN 10% OF THE TIME):
• Supervises or prepares reconciliations of general ledger accounts such as but not limited to bank accounts, receivables and payable fixed assets and prepaid expenses, outstanding debt and other liabilities on a monthly basis.
• Aides in coordination and supervision of operating cash flow management.
• Works closely with IT staff to ensure that computer and software systems provide accurate information and adequate internal controls.
LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY AND ACCOUNTABILITY:
Leads multiple teams, manages complex projects, or provides tactical leadership to operations. This job has direct supervisory responsibility for staff with input into hiring, performance, and other employment decisions.

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent, and five years of experience or more in a supervisory accounting role; knowledge of banks, banking systems, and cash management; knowledge of and expertise with computerized accounting systems; ability to develop and use spreadsheets and standard business software systems.
Certifications, Licensures, and Registrations: YMCA Multi-Team Leader certification preferred.
Other Requirements:
Understanding of and experience in GAAP is required, and experience in a nonprofit environment is preferred.

Physical Demands:
Administrative staff must be able to remain in a stationary position for several hours at a time and must be able to occasionally move about inside the office for meetings and to access files and office equipment. In addition, administrative staff must be able to travel to and traverse within multiple YMCA Cape Cod locations, including occasionally ascending and descending stairs. The employee frequently is required to sit and reach and must be able to move around the work environment. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
Mental Effort:
Administrative staff are responsible for completing administrative work, requiring attention to detail and organizational skills. Administrative staff may be required to work under tight deadlines and may work more than 40 hours per week, which may cause fatigue and stress. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use a computer for extended periods of time and be able to communicate using a computer and phone/smart device.
Working Conditions:
In general, administrative staff work in an office setting. However, administrative staff must also traverse to multiple locations across the YMCA Cape Cod as business needs arise as well as to meetings with Community Partners. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
