The Controller is responsible for overseeing various financial functions including budgeting, financial reporting, analysis, strategic planning, and compliance, often collaborating with different departments to ensure accurate financial information and support key business decisions; essentially acting as a key bridge between operational teams and senior finance leadership by providing financial insights and guidance.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Steers financial policy, ensuring compliance, and supporting our day-to-day operations.
- Planning, organizing, and directing the financial accounting and reporting functions.
- Ability to collaborate with senior leadership to support financial objectives.
- Responsible for all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, payroll, and grants administration.
- Maintain fiscal records and prepare financial reports following generally accepted accounting principles, tax requirements, and standards set by governmental funding agencies.
- Forecast short and long-range cash requirements and obligations as a basis for maintaining adequate funds.
- Function as immediate contact with independent auditors on accounting matters and supervise annual audits.
- Serve as a critical partner in improving and modernizing business practices in the ERP system.
- Provides leadership and support for all Finance department staff in their training and career development.
- Implementing and maintaining robust internal controls to mitigate financial risks and ensure data accuracy.
- Models and promotes integrity, teamwork, accountability, and quality among all members of the department.
- Provides guidance to Directors throughout the organization on best practices in fiscal management.
- Perform internal audit procedures in 340b, Finance, and other departments as needed.
- Prepare or assist with preparation of all Annual reporting, tax filings including Medicare, Medicaid, Indirect Rate, and UDS reporting.
- Work with the CFO to develop policies and procedures for the Finance and Administration departments and ensure compliance.
- Assists with the screening of candidates for "fit," recommends candidate for hire.
- Accountable for mentoring new employees ensures they receive appropriate training for their role. Outlines clear professional development goals.
- Completes thoughtful & timely performance reviews & competencies. Retains talented staff and minimizes turnover.
- Consistently monitors and provides feedback on staff performance. Addresses concerns, develops PIPs to include retraining; ensures staff are supported and held accountable; recognizes good performance, memorializes/documents meeting.
- Ensures P&Ps (agency and department) are consistently applied.
- Timely completes all trainings, certifications licensing renewals requirements.
Experience and Skills:
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field required. Masters preferred.
- A minimum of (10) ten years of progressively responsible experience overseeing fiscal management, accounting, and reporting functions for large, preferably not-for-profit organizations with significant public funding
- Knowledge of financial accounting and reporting standards and government regulations governing not-for-profit organizations
- Has a clear understanding of healthcare operations and the impact of financial decisions on those operations.
- Superior computer and analysis skills with working knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems
- Analysis and reporting of financial data
- Excellent mathematical and analytical skill
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
