POSITION SUMMARY:
The Custodian plays a vital role in supporting the Directors and maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment that reflects the organization’s mission and core values of youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. This position requires a dependable, detail-oriented individual who is flexible and able to take on routine as well as special cleaning projects as needed. Responsibilities include the cleaning and sanitizing of offices, meeting rooms, bathrooms, locker rooms, and common areas to ensure a high standard of cleanliness and safety for all members, staff, and visitors.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Perform general and detailed cleaning of all areas of the facility, including offices, meeting rooms, locker rooms, restrooms, and community spaces
- Remove garbage and recycling from designated areas on a daily basis
- Respond promptly to urgent or emergency cleaning needs as directed by supervisors
- Ensure all rooms are clean, organized, and properly stocked with necessary supplies
- Scrub, sanitize, and disinfect restrooms, locker rooms, and changing areas in accordance with facility hygiene and safety standards
- Operate cleaning equipment and follow proper procedures for chemical handling and storage
- Support facility maintenance efforts during events, high-traffic periods, or special projects
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse racial, ethnic, socioeconomic and gender diverse communities.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a highly integrated and diverse team.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma/GED required
- Willingness to work late night or weekend shifts
- Ability to work well under minimal supervision
- Capacity to take direction
- Strong attention to detail
- Mechanical aptitude a plus
- Ability to meet consistent attendance and punctuality
- Physically capable of lifting and moving objects up to 30 pounds as necessary
