POSITION SUMMARY:

The Youth Development Director is responsible for the development, implementation and administration of high-quality After School Care, Child watch, Summer Day Camp, and sports and teen programs for the branch. In addition, responsibilities may include other youth development programs, family activities, special events and participation in the Community Impact Campaign for the association.

**Specific programs may vary slightly, depending upon availability, staffing, and programming at individual branch.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Manages, directs and coordinates the school age childcare and day camp programs for assigned location(s). Also manages and builds teen programs and activities for locations with adolescent age participants. Ensures high quality programs and establishes new program activities. Expands programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.

  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.

  • Develops, manages and controls budgets related to the position. Ensures program operates within budget and that program fees are collected. Supports and budgets for healthy eating through coaching, mentoring, and monitoring menu quality.

  • Assures compliance with state and local regulations as they relate to program areas. Ensures that YMCA program standards are met and safety procedures followed. Maintains proper documentation for Bright from the Start, the State of Georgias Licensing division (I.e. CACFP Food Program, Licensing, CAPS, daily attendance records, transportation and medication logs.

  • Develops and implements sports programs for youth and adults including basketball, baseball, soccer, martial arts, and other related competitive team sports deemed beneficial to the community and YMCA participants.

  • Plans, implements and supervises special activities for teens. Expands, directs, and supervises teen classes and programs that meet YMCA community objectives.

  • Provides for upkeep of assigned program facilities and equipment and ensures the physical environment supports healthy living.

  • Develops and maintains relationships with state childcare licensing agency, school administration, parent groups and other organizations and agencies related to assigned programs. Responds to all agency, parent and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.

  • Provides staff leadership for annual fund-raising campaign and committees as assigned.

  • Maintains proper records and department files. Reviews payments, receipts, late fees, immunization forms and registrations for all participants.

  • Organizes special events for parents. Assists in YMCA fund raising activities.

  • Assists with Program Committee meetings.

  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.

  • Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program.

  • Preventing incidents of child abuse, identifying incidents of child abuse and reacting properly in the event they occur.

  • Assist in the overall retention and satisfaction of YMCA members through appropriate customer service

  • Assist in the annual Community Impact Campaign for the YMCA of Coastal Georgia

  • Maintain a positive and cheerful attitude with staff, parents and children

  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Youth Development Director is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of direct reports. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning assigning and directing work; appraising performance; reward and discipline employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent sound working knowledge of child development principles, professional training working with school age kids
  • One to two years related experience preferred, as a coordinator or supervisor of childcare programs.
  • Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include completion of: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; Working with Program Volunteers; CPR; First Aid; AED; Blood borne Pathogens; annual state licensing training.
  • Must be able to fulfill criminal background check and obtain authorization to work with children under the Georgia Department of Labor and completion of YMCA program specific certifications.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Ability to supervise multiple part-time staff at multi-locations
