Salary: $70,000 – $80,000 per year. Final compensation is based on factors such as skills, qualifications, and experience.
Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Controller, the Senior Accountant’s responsibilities include reconciling account balances and bank statements, maintaining general ledger and preparing month-end and year-end close procedures. A successful Senior Accountant combines excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles and ability to analyze financial reports. The Senior Accountant will assist the Controller in ensuring accuracy and effectiveness in all of the YMCA’s accounting tasks.
Essential Responsibilities
- Record daily bank accounts activities in accounting system and investigate and resolve discrepancies between bank records and accounting records; assist in reconciling bank statements
- Perform monthly and year-end close procedures, including journal entries, reconciliations and adjustments
- Manage Credit Card records and reconciliation process
- Prepare grant financial reports for funders and management
- Manage corporate spending accounts (Amazon, BJs Walmart, Costco, etc.)
- Serve as primary backup in Accounts Payable processing weekly vendor invoices
- Manage new vendor process and maintain vendor records and ensure W-9s and other compliance documents are up to date
- Manage and support Accounts Receivable and cash receipt process
- Process and record incoming checks
- Post AR payments and apply to the appropriate accounts
- Record AR accrual during month-end and year end
- Branch sales accounting activities inquiries
- Support month-end close processes by ensuring timely recording of revenue and expense accruals.
- Support internal and external audit process, including gathering documentation and responding to auditor inquiries
- Assist with year-end 1099 preparation
- Assist with the bi-weekly payroll process as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned by senior finance staff
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration with an accounting concentration, or equivalent
- 3 years of experience in accounting including financial reporting, accounting systems (accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash receipts and payroll)
- Must have excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work on multiple assignments simultaneously requiring the ability to assess facts and issues and make non-routine decisions regarding day-to-day accounting issues.
- Must have or be able to readily acquire a working knowledge of YMCA accounting operations and software systems.
- Must have a working knowledge of word-processing, spreadsheet, and database programs
Preferred Qualifications
- 5 years of experience in accounting including financial reporting, accounting systems (accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash receipts and payroll)
- Multi-lingual skills
- Large non-profit accounting experience
- SGA experience
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations relating to accounting for not-for-profit organizations.
