Creates a flexible classroom environment and promotes learning and personal growth in an effort to establish rapport and motivate students towards desired outcomes.

Essential Functions:

1. Implements curriculum within the established guidelines.
2. Teaches assigned grade/subject matter, utilizing course of study and other appropriate learning activities.
3. Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
4. Uses a variety of instruction strategies, such as inquiry, group discussion, lecture, discovery, etc.
5. Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
6. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
7. Evaluates students' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
8. Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students' progress and interpret the school program.
9. Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
10. Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by professional growth activities.
11. Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which the teacher will be evaluated in conformance with guidelines.
12. Selects and requisitions books and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records.
13. Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the school day.
14. Administers group standardized tests in accordance with state testing program.
15. Participates in curriculum development programs as required.
16. Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.

NOTES:

1. Teachers hired after July 1,2011 will have a one (1) year probationary period.

Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree in education or related subject required.
2. State of Florida teaching licensure and credentials.
3. Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience.
4. Experience working with students from an ethnically diverse, urban population preferred.

Ability to plan, lead and participate in activities.
