What are the responsibilities and job description for the ESE Teacher -K - 5 - Tiger Academy position at YMCA OF FLORIDA'S FIRST COAST?
Position Summary:
Creates a flexible classroom environment and promotes learning and personal growth in an effort to establish rapport and motivate students towards desired outcomes.
Essential Functions:
- Demonstrates preparation of lessons utilizing specially designed instruction (SDI) as called for on the students’ Individual Education Plans (IEP).
- Provides direct support to Exceptional Student Education (ESE) students by delivering specially designed instruction to students of varying abilities through the use of a variety of activities, techniques, questions, materials and student input (compensate for individual needs).
- When assigned, serves as a collaborative teaching partner with a general education teacher or support facilitator.
- Evaluates student’s progress and keep appropriate records including data on IEP goals, behavior plans, and the use of accommodations in the classroom.
- Participates in required ESE meetings and serve as Case Manager for assigned ESE students.
- Teaches assigned grade/subject matter, utilizing course of study and other appropriate learning activities.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
- Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
- Evaluates students' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
- Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students' progress and interpret the school program.
- Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
- Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by professional growth activities.
- Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which the teacher will be evaluated in conformance with guidelines.
- Supervises students in and out-of-classroom activities during the school day.
- Administers group standardized tests in accordance with state testing program.
- Participates in curriculum development programs as required.
- Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
- Communicate effectively with others and exhibit a willingness to share ideas and talents with colleagues.
- Perform other duties as requested by the Principal.
- Ensures all First Coast YMCA standards and best practices are implemented and followed.
- Applies YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to best practices, emergency procedures, medical and disciplinary situations and child abuse prevention.
- Ensures the health and safety of all members/guests.
- Inspect physical space to ensure the safety, orderliness, sanitation and cleanliness of facilities.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in education or related subject required.
- State of Florida Certification in appropriate ESE area, and separate subject area content certifications or the Middle Grades Integrated Curriculum, whichever is appropriate.
- Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience.
- Experience working with students from an ethnically diverse, urban population preferred.
