The Volunteer Coordinator supports the mission of the YMCA by overseeing all aspects of the volunteer
program, including recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, and ongoing engagement. This role ensures a
positive volunteer experience that aligns with the values and goals of the YMCA, while maintaining
compliance with organizational standards and procedures.

Essential Functions
• Administers the volunteer management system, ensuring accurate and timely recordkeeping and
project setups.
• Manages the background screening and volunteer training aspects of the volunteer process for
community development programs.
• Coordinates background check processes for all volunteers and ensures compliance with YMCA
policies.
• Tracks volunteer hours, participation trends, and impact metrics for internal and external
reporting.
• Send volunteer communications for recruitment and recognition through our volunteer portal.
• Manage association volunteer emails.
• Ensure all volunteers are completing all aspects of the onboarding
Performs other duties and tasks as assigned by leadership
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in volunteer coordination or related work.
• Strong organizational and administrative skills, with attention to detail.
• Proficient in volunteer management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks efficiently.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with diverse populations.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively with teams.
• Familiarity with background check protocols and data privacy standards.
• Comfortable with public speaking and presenting to groups.
• Passion for community engagement and the mission of the YMCA.
All YMCA team members are expected to maintain a current and active status for all safety, risk, and
programming certifications defined by the YMCA of Greater Charlotte.
Preferred Qualifications
• Associate’s degree or higher in Human Services, Nonprofit Management, or related field
preferred.
Working Conditions
• Primarily based in a YMCA office setting frequent travel to other centers or community sites
• Flexible schedule including some evenings and weekends to support volunteer activities
• Requires sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods throughout program areas
• Occasional lifting of materials and supplies up to 25 lbs
• Regular use of computers, phones, and standard office equipment
• Comfortable using volunteer management software and performing data entry
• Frequent interaction with staff, volunteers, and community members in a fast-paced setting
• Participation in setup and breakdown of events, sometimes in outdoor or varied weather
conditions
• Must follow YMCA policies and safety standards, including child protection guidelines
• Expected to maintain confidentiality and uphold a professional and welcoming demeanor
