Under the direction of Program Director and in accordance with the Christian mission of the YMCA, the Preschool Assistant Teacher will assist in implementing all classroom activities and lesson plans. The Preschool Assistant Teacher assumes shared responsibility for the education, supervision, and safety of all children enrolled in the program. The Preschool Assistant Teacher provides programmatic support to ensure that guidelines for childcare licensure are met.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Responsible for the supervision, safety and care of children in the assigned childcare area.
- Follow all policies, procedures, and standards established by the YMCA and NC Division of Child Development and Early Education.
- Assist Lead Teacher with the implementation of daily lesson plans and activities.
- Assist with positive classroom behavior management.
- Assist with drop off and pick up procedures.
- Assist in classroom prep and clean-up.
- Complete required trainings and documentation to maintain active state licensing status.
- Prepare and execute lesson plans for scheduled program times, which include provisions for participant ages and ability differences.
- Lead program activities following the schedule and routines, and provide guidance to teaching assistant staff to support daily activities.
- Follow all policies, procedures, and licensing standards established by the YMCA and NC Division of Child Development and Early Education.
- Complete daily checklist to ensure licensing standards are met, including walk throughs, administrative reports, and end of day cleaning.
- Supervise and ensure the safety of students.
- Implement positive behavior management techniques and develop individual support plans as needed.
- Manage drop off and pick up procedures.
- Utilize Listen First skills when communicating with parents/guardians and serve as a liaison between the program and Keep parents informed about classroom events, required documentation, and child's daily activities.
- Complete required trainings and documentation to maintain active state licensing status.
- Performs other duties and tasks as assigned by leadership.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 18 years old
- Completion of high school diploma or equivalency
- Minimum of 1 year previous child care experience
- Ability to work with diverse populations
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast paced, team environment
All YMCA team members are expected to maintain a current and active status for all safety, risk, and programming certifications defined by the YMCA of Greater Charlotte.
