The Licensed Preschool Teacher is responsible for planning, implementing, and leading a high-quality
early childhood education program in accordance with YMCA policies, state licensing regulations, and
best practices in early learning. This role ensures a safe, nurturing, and engaging classroom
environment for our infant and toddlers’ room (8 weeks – 2 years). where children can develop socially, emotionally, cognitively, and physically. The teacher
will also work collaboratively with families and fellow staff to support children's growth and success.

Essential Functions
Develop and implement developmentally appropriate lesson plans that foster creativity, critical
thinking, and early learning skills.
• Create a warm and inclusive classroom environment, ensuring a sense of belonging and
emotional security for all children.
• Supervise and guide children in daily activities, promoting positive behavior and social
interactions.
• Ensure compliance with state licensing requirements, health and safety guidelines, and YMCA
policies.
• Monitor and assess children’s progress, maintaining accurate records and communicating
milestones to parents and caregivers.
• Collaborate with families, conducting regular updates, conferences, and engagement
opportunities.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and well-equipped classroom, ensuring materials are safe and
accessible for children.
• Lead and mentor assistant teachers, providing guidance and support in classroom management
and curriculum implementation.
• Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current on early childhood education
trends and licensing standards.
• Support the YMCA’s mission and core values (Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility) in
all aspects of the program

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
• High School diploma or equivalent. Must be at least 18 years or age at time of application.
• State-required preschool teaching certification or licensure required (or ability to obtain within 90
days or hire)
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in an early childhood education setting preferred.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with children, families, and
colleagues.
• Ability to manage a classroom independently while fostering a positive learning environment.
• Physical ability to engage with young children, including sitting on the floor, bending, lifting up to
50 lbs., and participating in outdoor activities.
• Commitment to diversity and inclusion, ensuring all children feel valued and respected.
All YMCA team members are expected to maintain a current and active status for all safety, risk, and
programming certifications defined by the YMCA of Greater Charlotte.
Preferred Qualifications
• Previous experience in a childcare setting or licensed preschool.
• Bachelor's degree in education or related field preferred
• Current CPR/First Aid certification
