What are the responsibilities and job description for the Outdoor Experience Team Lead: Harris YMCA position at YMCA of Greater Charlotte?
Under the direction and daily supervision of the Outdoor Experience Coordinator (or branch specific designee) and consistent with the Christian Mission of the YMCA, the Outdoor Experience Team Lead will assist the Coordinator in leading all aspects of their program including but not limited to Archery, Fishing, Alpine Tower and Giant Swing, Challenge Tower and Zip Line, Nature Hikes, Outdoor Education Classes, Field Days, Fun Days, Birthday Parties and Campfire programs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist in planning and implementing all components of events including staffing, equipment control, enhancement programs, programming and communication.
- Provide leadership and modeling of behaviors for Outdoor Experience Team Members.
- Responsible for the safety of the participants at all times.
- Listen to and work to meet the individual needs of all the participants in the program and making their experience meaningful.
- Assist in the daily cleaning and maintenance of the space and/or facility, help to create a safe program environment each event, set up and take down included.
- Maintain positive relationships and open, positive communication with participants, YMCA personnel, site personnel, and volunteers.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Enthusiastic personality who can develop harmonious relationships with staff, members, and volunteers.
- Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
- One year previous experience in planning/providing outdoor education curriculum, recreational activities and craft activities for any/all ages., to include handling conflict situations
- Valid NC driver’s license.
- Site-specific or Level 1 Tower Facilitation certification.
- Excellent written/oral presentation skills.
- Highly developed organizational skills and ability to motivate and develop staff.
- All trainings and certifications required within allotted timeframe.
- General knowledge of YMCA programs, philosophies and objectives.
- Ability to represent the YMCA in a mature and professional manner.
- Experience in customer relations especially with families, building administrators, YMCA associates and local organizations with similar goals around youth.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience supervising part-time or seasonal team members.
PHYSCIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to work irregular work hours, including occasional nights and weekends.
- Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time.
- Must be able to lift and/or assist children up to 50 pounds in weight.
- Must be able to lift and carry food and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.
- Ability to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a time.
- Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
- Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
- Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency
