What are the responsibilities and job description for the Outdoor Experience Team Member: Harris YMCA position at YMCA of Greater Charlotte?
Under the direction and daily supervision of the Outdoor Experience Coordinator/Lead (or branch specific designee) and consistent with the Christian Mission of the YMCA, the Outdoor Experience Team Member will assist guests with all aspects of their program including but not limited to Archery, Fishing, Alpine Tower and Giant Swing, Challenge Tower and Zip Line, Nature Hikes, Outdoor Education Classes, Field Days, Fun Days, Birthday Parties and Campfire programs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Monitor and oversee all site specific events including but not limited to program participation, use of facilities and safety.
- Meet the individual needs of all the participants in the program and ensure their experience meaningful.
- Perform daily cleaning and maintenance of the space and/or facility.
- Set up and take down events with safety as a priority.
- Maintain positive relationships and open, positive communication with participants, YMCA personnel, site personnel, and volunteers.
- Report to Outdoor Experience Coordinator/Lead the needs and concerns with on-going risk assessment items.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Enthusiastic personality who can develop harmonious relationships with staff, members, and volunteers.
- Excellent written, oral and presentation skills.
- Possess clear communication skills with children, adults, co-workers and supervisors.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
- One year experience working with children, to include handling conflict situations.
- Experience in outdoor education, specifically in a camp setting and/or experience working with the outdoor activities and features of this particular site.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to work irregular work hours, including occasional nights and weekends.
- Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time.
- Must be able to lift and/or assist children up to 50 pounds in weight.
- Must be able to lift and carry food and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.
- Ability to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a time.
- Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
- Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
- Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency
