What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Y Readers Program Assistant position at YMCA of Greater Charlotte?
Under the supervision of the Association Academic Initiatives Coordinator and consistent with the
mission of the YMCA, the Summer Y Readers Program Assistant will be responsible for the supervision
of program participants and implementation of literacy and enrichment activities, providing each
participant with the opportunity to develop physically, mentally, spiritually and socially.

Essential Functions
• Support daily program activities, including but not limited to, special events, physical activity, art,
social emotional learning, field trips, and water activities
• Assist with executing literacy-based lesson plans
• Build and maintain positive relationships with students, staff, and families
• Supervise and engage with students at all times
• Implement positive behavior management practices
• Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment
• Assist with arrival and dismissal to ensure student safety
Performs other duties and tasks as assigned by leadership.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• High school diploma preferred
• Experience or training related to children ages 4-10 preferred
• Interest in working with children and under resourced populations
• Adapt to changing needs and circumstances
All YMCA team members are expected to maintain a current and active status for all safety, risk, and
programming certifications defined by the YMCA of Greater Charlotte.
Working Conditions
• Speak concisely and effectively communicate in English, written and oral
• Walk, stand, kneel and sit (including on the floor) while maintaining alertness for extended periods
of time
• Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids
• Lift and/or assist children up to 65 pounds in weight
• Lift and carry supplies weighing up to 50 pounds in weight
• Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an
emergency
• Get in a swimming pool up to 5 feet in depth and assist students
