What are the responsibilities and job description for the Y Scholars Assistant Teacher: Harris YMCA position at YMCA of Greater Charlotte?
Under the direction of the Homeschool Coordinator, or branch designee, and consistent with the Christian mission of the YMCA and in cooperation with other YMCA staff, the Homeschool Student Monitor will be directly responsible for the safety, supervision, programming and involvement with program participants. This position will be supervising students at lunch, recess, study hall, field day and any other activities directed by their supervisor.
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for the safety of children at all times.
- Responsible for daily record keeping and adherence to all guidelines.
- Attend all staff meetings and trainings as required by the program staff. Assist in the daily cleaning and maintenance of space and/or facility, help to create an environment each day, set up and take down included, while meeting quality walk through standards.
- Responsible for meeting the individual needs of all children in the program regardless of group placement.
- Maintain positive relationships and open, positive communication with parents, YMCA personnel and administration.
- Maintain operational standards.
- Take on additional responsibilities in support services for the afterschool program.
- Assume any other duties as assigned by the YMCA administration.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Be 21 years of age and/or have completed one year of college.
- Must have a clean driving record
- Mature individual with good moral character and integrity.
- Ability to work well with children in cooperation with parents and staff
- Must possess strong decision making skills
- Ability to be flexible and deal with conflict while demonstrating strong human relation skills
- Must understand and follow program guidelines and maintain quality standards set my supervisor
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to work irregular work hours.
- Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time.
- Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
- Must be able to lift and/or assist children up to 50 pounds in weight.
- Must be able to lift and carry food and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.
- Ability to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a time.
- Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
- Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
- Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
