Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Youth Program Director and in accordance with the Christian mission of the YMCA, the Homeschool Teacher Lead will be responsible for planning, developing, implementing and teaching Homeschool age children the environment curriculum. The Homeschool Teacher Lead will be responsible for the development and implementation of all classroom activities, testing and registration of the students, following the guidelines agreed upon by the teacher and Program Director.
Principal Activities:
- Teach, develop the curriculum and prepare lesson plans for classes/students.
- Be responsible for the supervision, safety and well being of the program participants.
- Carry out the daily lesson plans leading the classroom, following the guidelines agreed upon by the teacher and the Program Director.
- Communicate with the Program Director concerning student’s needs and evaluate their progress.
- Actively participate in the activities.
- Take daily attendance of students/participants.
- Uphold facility maintenance and cleanliness standards.
- Work with assistant teachers and volunteers; clearly communicate needs, to utilize in program.
- Ensure proper set-up and break down of assigned rooms on a daily basis and maintaining a neat and clean appearance of room including equipment and supplies.
- Present quality image through staff attire and interaction with other YMCA employees, volunteers and membership.
Requirements:
- At least two years experience in related area or equivalent teaching education
- Fluent in English language
- Must be able to communicate well with students, parents and volunteers, be a team player, and have good leadership skills.
- Prior experience in teaching or equivalent university preparation.
- General knowledge of YMCA programs, philosophies and objectives.
- Ability to represent the YMCA in a mature and professional manner.
- Must be sensitive to the feelings and needs of others.
- Must be able to relate well with students and promote an environment conducive to learning.
- Will acquire CPR/First Aid Certification within thirty days of employment.
- Ability to work in and resolve conflict situations.
Physical Requirements:
The Homeschool Teacher Lead must be able to see, hear, speak, read, write, walk, sit and stand, and lift a minimum of 50 pounds.

Implementing all of the above activities should produce a Homeschool Program that promotes the positive growth and nurturing of the students by meeting individual development needs. The ability to retain participants in the Homeschool Program will reflect success of this position. This program should foster community relations and involve more families in the total YMCA program by creating a warm, friendly, nurturing atmosphere and reflecting a positive image.
