POSITION OVERVIEW
The Youth Curriculum Program Coordinator will provide support for youth programs in order to ensure the effective administration of youth programs for the YMCA of Greater Des Moines. This will focus on STEM Youth Programs, and is NOT part of youth sports.
JOB LOCATION: Walnut Creek YMCA
SHIFTS AVAILABLE: Flexible weekday and weekend time available - 20 hours per week - Summer availability required
PAY RANGE: $12.00- $14.00/hour
CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATIONS: February 27, 2025 - Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Create, plan and deliver youth program opportunities.
- Develop and implement a promotion plan to advertise youth program opportunities.
- Manage and coordinate youth program activities.
- Assist in preparing the annual budget, and manage the financials and budget for the youth programs.
- Prepare reports and rosters using computer information
- Develop and implement evaluation to learn results of the youth program.
- Assists in the monitoring of inventory of department’s equipment and ensures effective, safe use.
- Respond to questions and concerns of program participants and families.
- Know emergency procedures and be able to demonstrate them.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor or designated staff person.
- Demonstrate and support the objectives of the Association as embodied in the mission statement and values.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to read, write, perform simple mathematical functions, and basic computer skills including Microsoft Office or Google Workspace Applications.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One year of previous work experience in youth program or related experience that is transferable.
- Current Red Cross CPR/First Aid/AED Certification OR equivalent – prior to starting.
- Intro to Y’s Cause & Culture Online Course - prior to starting if hired.
- Training to be completed within the first 30 days and maintained afterwards

- Ability to demonstrate proper techniques
- Ability to build rapport, create relationship and to motivate participants
- Ability to maintain control even when distracted by noise and activity
- Ability to make sound judgments in all situations and transfer learning from one situation to another
- Ability to step in as a lead when leadership is not present or available
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Visual, auditory, and verbal ability to communicate with people and monitor property and activity
- Ability to perform moderate physical activity
- Ability to adapt to changing working conditions
- Ability to demonstrate the program’s specific skills
