POSITION SUMMARY :
The Sports and Wellness Director leads center wellness staff members in all member connection and retention initiatives related to the wellness center and wellness programming. The Director will manage the day-to-day operations of sports and wellness programs and operations. This position provides direct leadership for personal training, group training, group exercise, healthy living programs, youth conditioning programs, and wellness floor staff; directly supervising and developing these staff teams to provide the highest quality service and exceptional member experience for all in small to mid-sized centers. This position is responsible for managing the sports and wellness-related financials, relationship building, supervision of staff, volunteer development and for being a YMCA advocate in the community. A strong focus is placed on driving a superior member and youth experience, enhancing the membership connection / engagement, thereby leading to increasing member satisfaction and retention. This position employs a continuous improvement model to meet and / or exceed goals for satisfaction, budgeted revenue / expense goals.
Qualifications :
- BA / BS in exercise science or related field; or equivalent experience preferred.
- Minimum of two years of experience in sports and wellness programming, with at least one year of supervisory experience preferred.
- Must obtain and maintain current certification from a national accredited organization in personal training, group exercise or similar discipline.
- Must obtain within 30 days of employment and maintain current certifications in CPR, First Aid, AED and Oxygen Administration.
- Must understand how to build relationships and have strong interpersonal skills.
- Have the ability to lead a strong staff team that is focused on creating a welcoming environment and providing a superior member experience for all members, at all times.
- Must have a proven track record and a passion for exercise, nutrition, healthy living and helping others live a healthier lifestyle. Additional skills in developing small groups, personal training, and group exercise are needed.
