Overview
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Group Fitness Instructor at The YMCA of Greater Monmouth County intentionally fosters a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined. Under the direct supervision of the Regional Group Exercise Director, the Group Fitness Instructor will promote healthy and safe group exercise programs for all clients in a professional manner.
Responsibilities
- Always be on time for all group fitness classes and abiding by the established dress code
- Demonstrate YMCA core character values of honesty, respect, responsibility and caring in all interactions with employees, members, staff and others; commit to ongoing professional development.
- Responsible for proper and safe instruction of assigned classes.
- Responsible for providing participants with proper safety techniques and a stimulating exercise session.
- Responsible taking attendance and/or keeping class roster.
- Responsible for keeping class format and music current and appropriate.
- Ensure equipment is put away in its proper storage area and room is clean and returned to its original set up after class.
- Exercise sound judgment in relationship to member safety & injuries. Follow all emergency procedures.
- Visually inspect work area and equipment for safety and risk, report to supervisor in writing any problems. Responsible for filling out accident/incident reports and getting these reports to the Regional Wellness Director. Additionally, immediately report any unsafe or suspicious activity directly to Regional Group Exercise Director or Director on Duty.
- Embrace and adhere to service excellence standards; provide outstanding service to your customers and constituents.
Qualifications
- Must be at least age 18 years
- Current nationally recognized group exercise certification (SCA, ASCM, ACE, AFAA, NSCA, NETA, NASM, AAAI/ISMA, or WITS certifications)
- Ability to communicate and lead group exercise classes to a diverse group of participants
- First Aid, CPR/AED certification within 90 days of hire date
- The YMCA of Greater Monmouth County New Team Member Orientation
- YMCA Child Abuse Prevention Online Training
- Blood borne Pathogen Online Training
- Notify Healthy Living Director within 60 days before First Aid, CPR/AED expiration date. The YMCA provides First Aid, CPR/AED recertification classes.
