What are the responsibilities and job description for the Before and After School Counselor position at YMCA of Greater Montgomery?
Under the direction and supervision of the Site Director, the counselor is expected to supervise, manage and interact with the children registered in the Goodtimes program. Work hours are from 6:45am - 8:30 am and 2:30pm – 6:00pm.
Days:
August 10, 2023 - May 23, 2024 Monday through Friday except school holidays but have the option to work on holidays.
Qualifications:
Must be at least 17 years old, undergoing professional preparation to be a leader of young children or having experience with elementary age children. Must enjoy working with children. Must be willing to fulfill the counselor’s responsibilities in accordance with the YMCA’s philosophy and goals. CPR certification required within 30 days of hire.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- To supervise and interact appropriately with all children in the program according to prescribed YMCA standards.
- To plan, implement and participate in all scheduled activities including, but not limited to, weekly lesson plans, sports, games, crafts, etc.
- Be responsible for the safety of program participants at all times.
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with parents, program participants and other staff.
- Attend all mandatory staff meetings and trainings.
- To complete all required documentation for the program.
- Responsible for maintenance and care of equipment and supplies.
- To help with housekeeping tasks as necessary.
Before School Sites: Bear Elementary School, Blount Elementary, Brewbaker, Floyd, Forest Avenue, Garrett, Halcyon, MacMillan, Wares Ferry and Wilson.
After School Sites: Baldwin, Bear, Blount, Brewbaker, Carr, Montgomery Catholic, Crump, Dannelly, Dozier, Fitzpatrick, Flowers, Floyd, Forest Avenue, Garrett, Halcyon, Holy Spirit, Lead Academy, MacMillan, St. Bede’s, Wares Ferry and Wilson. Also, at the YMCA Goodtimes Center, East YMCA, Kershaw YMCA, Cleveland Avenue YMCA, Wetumpka YMCA, Grandview Family YMCA, and the Children’s Center of Montgomery.
