JOB TITLE: Aqua Aerobics
REPORTS TO: Healthy Living Coordinator
FLSA TYPE: Non-Exempt
WORK LOCATION: Daily YMCA
JOB PURPOSE:
Under the direction of the Healthy Living Coordinator and other assigned staff the Aqua Aerobics Instructor will conduct and instruct aquatic group exercise classes to the best of his/her ability. These classes are meant to provide members of the YMCA a fun, safe and comprehensive group exercise program. It is the responsibility of the Aqua Aerobics Instructor to provide this environment for the members.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (not a complete list):
- Must be able to demonstrate skills and explain them clearly to class members.
- Must be able to work at the learning level of class.
- Responsible for the safety of all participants during class time.
- Must work with individual students within class structure to enable all correct faults, improve self-image and progress their abilities.
- Reports to class prepared with materials and equipment, dressed in approved attire.
- Knows emergency procedures and the location of emergency equipment.
- Secures qualified substitute well in advance.
- Attends trainings and staff meetings.
- Maintains all personal certifications, attending workshops and re-certification training as needed or required.
- Prepares teaching area with necessary equipment.
- Returns all teaching equipment to proper storage.
- Participates in center participant recruitment program promotions.
- Any other duties asked of by the Director of Health and Wellness.
Required:
- Must be 18 years old and older
- Certification in area of expertise
- High School diploma or GED
- At least one year experience teaching water aerobics
Preferred:
- CPR, First Aid, AED, Oxygen Administration certification (will provide upon employment)
- Bilingual English and Spanish
