POSITION SUMMARY

Unique in scope and responsibility, the Operations Manager is responsible for all aspects of the running of the storefront express facility, including both administrative and hands-on service duties.  This individual must possess strong leadership skills to advance the Y’s culture of service, strengthen the Y’s position in the community and build staff and community relationships to ensure long-term success.  In addition, every position in the YMCA of Greensboro is responsible for carrying out our promise to strengthen the foundations of community with focus on Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility while upholding our values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Provide exemplary customer service in all aspects of facility operations, modeling the cultural expectations of self-motivated service and engagement with members and participants.
  2. Develop and implement member recruitment, involvement and retention initiatives for the facility, and administer all appropriate association-wide quality surveys and initiatives so the facility will meet or exceed goals for membership, retention and quality.
  3. Support and participate in association-wide activities such as community events or initiatives, teams or special projects, and task force groups, taking on a leadership role where appropriate.
  4. Develop, implement and manage the annual budget for the facility.
  5. Lead fund raising campaign(s) among members and the community for annual support, Bright Beginnings and other facility projects/campaigns as the need arises.
  6. Responsible for managing the membership records in CCC, running and distributing reports as required. Responsibilities may include supervision of other employees performing these duties and/or hands-on work in the system.
  7. Ensure a clean, well-maintained facility, assuming responsibility for proper cleaning and maintenance of the facility, systems and equipment. Responsibilities may include seeking assistance from association maintenance personnel, supervision of other employees performing these services and/or actual service delivery.
  8. In conjunction with Marketing and Communications Director, identify and implement marketing strategy for the facility to achieve goals for membership and community service.
  9. Recruit, train and recognize volunteers as needed to support the mission and cause of the Y in the community. 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

May manage subordinate supervisors who could supervise front-line employees in the branch, and/or may also directly supervise front-line employees.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS  

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   1. Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Strong fitness/wellness background preferred.  
  2. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees or the organization. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, percentages, area, and volume.  Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  3. Ability to work effectively and seamlessly with a variety of constituents including but not limited to supervisor, direct reports, members and the community. Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately using written, verbal and non-verbal methods. Ability to work as part of a team regardless of the expressed role within the team, and ability to changes roles as needed. Ability seek collaborations with staff, members and other organizations to reach a common goal. Ability to adapt to the changing needs of the Y and learn new skills sets to better serve in an ever-changing community and work environment. Ability to identify a problem, plan for and execute a solution for a desired outcome, involving others as needed. Ability to analyze and interpret data, and to create action steps to address key information extracted from the data. Ability to resolve conflict by negotiating solutions that will serve the best interests of all parties.
  4. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and talk or hear.  The employee is frequently required reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit; and taste or smell.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  5. There are no specific vision requirements.  
  6. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.  The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather), high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  7. Certifications: CPR/AED, First Aid, Blood borne pathogen training required after hire and must remain current.
