POSITION SUMMARY
The Teacher is responsible for assisting with carrying out all duties in accordance with NC Child Care Licensing Standards and providing a safe and positive atmosphere in which each child’s growth and development is assured. The Teacher is also responsible for managing the classroom in the absence of the Lead Teacher. In addition, every position in the YMCA of Greensboro is responsible for carrying out our promise to strengthen the foundations of community with focus on Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility while upholding our values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- To assist the Lead Teacher in the implementation of the weekly lesson plans.
- To work with the Lead Teacher in maintaining a welcoming, safe and healthy environment for children.
- To assist the Lead Teacher in maintaining positive and clear communication with parents.
- To obtain in-service and yearly training requirements.
- To have a working knowledge of NC Day Care rules and regulations.
- To assist in keeping the classroom clean, well organized and arranged appropriately.
- To cooperate with other staff at the center to create a professional and positive environment.
- To assist in maintaining visual supervision of children.
- To assist in maintaining records.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. - NC Early Childhood Credential and at least one year experience in an early childhood education program required, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to speak effectively with children in the program and their parents. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involved a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Ability to communicate effectively across all socio-economic segments of the community.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Must be able to see and hear to effectively monitor children in all situations.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- Must have completed requirements for the NC Early Childhood Credential. CPR/AED, Blood Borne Pathogens and First Aid certifications required upon hire.
