POSITION SUMMARY:
The Camp Coordinator for Elevate Adventure Camp is responsible for the successful planning, execution, and oversight of camp site operations. This role ensures a high-quality experience for campers ages 10-14 by managing staff, overseeing daily activities, and creating a safe, engaging, and enriching environment. The Camp Coordinator plays a critical leadership role in fostering a sense of belonging and adventure while upholding the mission and values of the YMCA of Memphis & the Mid-South.
Program Leadership & Implementation
- Oversee the execution of weekly themed camp activities, including field trips, outdoor adventures, and educational experiences.
- Ensure all activities align with the YMCA’s mission and focus on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
- Develop and implement schedules, ensuring smooth daily operations and transitions between activities.
Staff Supervision & Development
- Train and supervise camp advisors, volunteers, and interns.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and mentorship to ensure staff are engaged and providing a positive camp experience.
- Conduct regular team meetings and evaluations to maintain high standards of safety and program quality.
- Create and manage a staff schedule that ensures proper staff coverage in alignment with state licensing requirements.
Camper & Parent Engagement
- Ensure a welcoming and inclusive environment for all campers.
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding camper progress, behavior, and camp updates.
- Address and resolve camper conflicts or concerns in a timely and professional manner.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure adherence to all YMCA policies and state licensing regulations related to camp operations.
- Maintain accurate attendance records, incident reports, and emergency action plans.
- Supervise transportation logistics for field trips and ensure safety procedures are followed at all times.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Youth Development, or a related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in youth programming, camp leadership, or education.
- Experience managing a team and supervising staff.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Passion for youth development and commitment to the YMCA’s mission.
- Ability to manage groups and maintain a positive, structured environment.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain before camp starts).
- Must pass fingerprint background check and any state-required screenings.
- F endorsement license for driving on field trips (or willingness to obtain before camp starts).
- Requires active participation in outdoor activities, including hiking, swimming, and sports.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and stand/walk for extended periods.
- Exposure to various outdoor weather conditions.
