What are the responsibilities and job description for the OST Head Group Leader position at YMCA of Metro North?
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Lynn Family YMCA in Lynn is hiring a Head Group Leader to provide leadership and guidance in our Y Academy, Out-of-School Time (after school) program for children ages 5-13. This individual will be responsible for the development, organization, and implementation of engaging youth development activities.
Essential Functions:
Child Safety and Supervision:
- Ensure a safe and secure environment for all children.
- Continuously monitor children by sight and sound.
- Supervise children to ensure safety and age-appropriate behavior and manage transitions smoothly.
- Frequently conduct name-to-face counts at the beginning, during, and end of each activity.
- Stay alert to children's individual needs. Program Implementation and Curriculum:
- Plan and implement engaging STEAM-based activities and curriculum daily.
- Develop and facilitate age-appropriate activities that promote creativity, cultural awareness, and social-emotional development.
Administrative and Compliance:
- Maintain accurate daily attendance records.
- Report all accidents and unusual incidents immediately and assist with necessary documentation.
- Adhere to EEC regulations and YMCA OST policies, procedures, regulations, and guidelines. Seek clarification when needed.
- Communicate with parents/guardians regarding child progress and program updates. Behavior Management:
- Use positive reinforcement and redirection for behavior guidance. Professional Development and Teamwork:
- Attend all staff meetings, training sessions, and program special events.
- Participate in at least twenty hours of training per year.
- Communicate effectively with fellow staff members. General Duties:
- Provide youth with homework assistance and academic support.
- Perform other duties as required by supervisor, maintaining flexibility and openness.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- At least one year of experience working with school-age children (e.g., summer camp, sports programs, church groups, etc.).
- Completion of the EEC Online Orientation Course for new educators within the first 30 days of hire and other EEC trainings as required.
- Ability to be flexible, think creatively, and adapt to changing situations.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of a team.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Must be able to pass Mandated reporter training.
- Must be able to adhere to all EEC regulations and guidelines.
- Ability to perform physical activities, including lifting, running, and playing with children.
Additional Application Requirements:
- Clean criminal record check. (Must be able to pass a Background Records Check prior to working directly with children.)
- An annual physical confirmed by a physician’s statement, including documentation of 2 MMR immunizations.
- Verification of education and work experience for Position.
- Completion of the DEEC Online Orientation Course for new educators within first 30 days of hire.
- Completion of Redwoods Online Trainings within first 30 days of hire.
- Ability to commit to Monday-Friday schedule
