POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides direct supervision of a group of children in a Childcare setting. Provides a quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Supervises, provides leadership and guidance for a group of children.
- Plans and implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values.
- Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
- Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
- Maintains positive relationships and effective communication with children, parents and other staff. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions.
- Prepare and set up for group activities and clean up after activity is complete.
- Maintains program site and equipment.
- Maintains required program records.
- Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.
- Reports all problems and is familiar with procedures for reporting problems and incidents.
- Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
- Ensures all program participants are safe and follow all rules and regulations set in place by the YMCA of Metropolitan Columbus, GA. Reports any unsafe acts. Is familiar with handling problems & incidents and procedures for reporting problems and incidents.
- Provides an enjoyable experience for each child.
- Sets a good example in promptness, manners, language, loyalty, appearance and good habits.
- Sets a good example in respect and care of the YMCA organization, facilities, equipment and property at all times.
- Treats everyone, including children, with dignity and respect.
- Assists in keeping program areas clean, making sure there is no food or drinks left in the program area, clean tables, chairs, etc.
- Complete in all other tasks as assigned.
- Abide by all YMCA Policies, Procedures, Guidelines and Standards.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school graduate or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.
- Previous experience working with children preferably in a day camp setting
- At least 16 years of age (The age minimum may be higher depending on state law and YMCA policies.)
- CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
- Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
- Must be able to follow instructions well and work well with others.
- Must have a high level of patience and tolerance and be able to work with children.
- Should have a warm and friendly personality, be sensitive to the feelings and needs of others and be willing to fulfill responsibilities in accordance with program goals.
- Must have emotional maturity, good moral character, common sense and integrity.
- Interested in children and desire to create and work within an atmosphere conductive to individual growth.
- Ability to adapt to changing needs and circumstances.
- Good communication skills.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to: climb stairs, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, reach with hands, sit, stand for an extended period of time, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, have finger dexterity, grasp, perform repetitive motions, talk, hear and have visual acuity.
